Anyone here ever had to warranty a ridgid pipe wrench? Someone at work today broke a 36" aluminum Ridgid pipe wrench today. Will Ridgid warranty this wrench? Do you have to have all the parts that broke off?

If it's the handle and there are any snipe or hammer marks on it then they won't warranty it.

The top part broke off. All I have left is the handle and bottom jaw. There are marks on the handle from a cheater.

then i would say no. as you were using it in an incorrect manor (using a cheater bar) they shouldn't warranty it

and yes, i know we all do it but it doesnt make it right.

I believe it is only the handle that is warrantied anyways I forget what the sticker says on them when they are new...but I believe its somewhere down the line of "If this handle breaks or deforms return it to Ridgid for a free replacement"

The jaws and adjustment parts are considered "serviceable". Depending on the stores in your area, you may get a new one, or they may sell you a jaw.

If you have a Fastenal store close by, you can take to them and they will send back to Ridgid at no charge to see if they will warranty it.

Yep; My new 14'' has a sticker that says :If this housing breaks or distorts, return to Ridge Tool Co. for a free replacement.

attached tag states: "Sturdy, cast iron, I beam handle"
handle is lettered :THE RIDGE TOOL CO. ELYRIA, OHIO U.S.A. 14"
other side of handle lettered :RIDGID HEAVY DUTY 14"

Sorry, I don't have an aluminum wrench, but I recall them being lettered, stickered, and tagged in a similar manner.

Mine, that I quoted the sticker from, is not an aluminum handle either.
I did not notice the OP saying that in the 1st post.

Thanks!

I took one to fastenal and they told me to fly a kite

Each store must be different. I don't have an account with the local store, but they shipped my 36" steel pipe wrench to Ridgid and back and didn't charge me a dime for the new wrench. Took like 4-5 days for the whole process.

A cheater on aluminum? I have to assume on a 36" wrench you are using a 6' or longer cheater. The advantage or reduced weight does not mean you can use it the same as a regular wrench.

You are the guy that spoils warranty for the rest of us. I was in a store one day and standing behind a guy returning tools. They all had been grossly misused. It pissed me off that the guy got his money back. That cost is passed on to me.

You can buy the top jaw, if not at local stores definitely online. Also check your local pawn shops, a whole one might be cheaper.

I was not using the wrench. I walked through the shop after all the mechanics had went home and it was in the scrap bin. Don't know what they were working on but I assume it was a conveyor. I don't have all the parts, and don't know who broke it because I would have asked them for all the parts. Didn't see the rest in the scrap bin. There are marks on the handle that look like they came from a cheater. I'll try to post a pic when I get home of the wrench and where it broke.

I'm a power plant operator. My boss will not let me use any tools. It makes the mechanics mad when I fix stuff. They don't even like it when I remove insulation to see what part of the pipe is leaking. Tools are abused in power plants, and it pisses me off to see it everyday. I see welders left out in the rain, impacts in buckets of water, and everything is a hammer. They are freezing our pay and cutting budget and then i see a $250 pipe wrench broken and in the scrap bin. Last week I found a 1/2" drive 15" Proto extension with an impact adapter from 1/2-3/4" in the scrap bin with remains of a 3/4" impact universal. The end of the extension was mushroomed beyond use from being hit with a hammer. Sorry for the rant.

I'm a PPO as well. I get ticked all the time about that stuff too. I got some cut pieces of new boiler tube yesterday. 3ft each. Just thrown in the dumpster. There was a push cart my buddy got a couple days ago out of the dumpster. I can only assume it was there because of the sticky castor it had.

I'd defiantly try to find replacement parts.

To my knowledge, Ridgid still makes their pipe tools here.
Hand tools, is a **** shoot.
All their electrictools, with the possible exception of pipe threaders, are chinese.
they are owned by emerson.
emerson tends to offshore everything they buy.

I was not using the wrench.

I hope you accept my apology, I thought you were the abuser.

The sixth picture look like hammer marks. If I was guessing the wrench was slipping and it was hammered to force it onto the pipe to get a better bite. That would account for where the break occurred, as the ?threaded? part of the top would move forwar.

Are you sure you don't work on a drilling rig? That sounds exactly like the place I work haha, my boss is a tool fanatic so he usually gets us some pretty nice stuff if things are going well but nobody seems to appreciate it. We have a nice 3/4" IR TI impact wrench that gets abused like you wouldn't believe, thrown in water, mud, sawdust, invert...thrown off the top of our mud pumps ~4ft to the floor. Finally it stopped putting out any amount or torque(probably 80ish ft/lbs maybe not even) and all of a sudden EVERYONE was crying it was a piece of junk because they were doing everything by hand. They somehow lost the reverse button off it so now you have to use a screwdriver to select F-R...I let them sweat it out by hand for a couple weeks then took it all apart cleaned/lubed it all up so it's working great now. You think that changed how they treat it? Hell no back to being thrown in water, mud, sawdust and invert. Haha /rant

On another note I am very doubtful they would warranty that handle with the snipe marks all over it, but you could always try. As punishment I would wait until you see them using a 36" aluminum and hand them the 48" steel handle:evil: That'll give them a workout

that kind of abuse/misuse happens all the time here too, even by independent contractors paying for their own tools... <label for="rb_iconid_9">
