Ridgid just recently updated their wall mount shop vac. I was planning on buying the older model, but they were gone and this one was in its place at Home Depot.

The WD5500 5gal/5hp shop vac was $99 and it was the only wall mounted shop vac they had so I figured I would give it a shot.

The plastic back mounts to the wall with 4 screws. I used concrete screws to mount it to the block wall in my garage. The plastic backing is nice and thick, and holds up fine when mounted to a wall.

They have it rated at 8.5amps and 5hp. I know it is less than that hp number realistically, but this vacuum does the job nonetheless. Even at the end of the full 21ft of hose there was more than enough suction for my wife to get dog hair out of her car parked in the driveway. If you mount this thing in the right place you will probably never even have to take it off of the wall since it has a 20ft cord and a 21ft hose.

Ridgid supplied all the necessary attachments and I didn't have to buy any extra which was a plus. The box says there is a "full lifetime warranty against material defects and workmanship," hopefully I won't need it but it seems like a good deal.

Bottom Line: This thing is a steal for $99 and I am very happy with it.

Looks nice and compact. Solves the problem with my current vacuum (Craftman 8 gallon) about where to put the hose when you're done.

Looks good hanging on the wall. I am glad to see that is has good suction because I picked one up on Monday.

I went in to get the wall mounted one in the local HD flyer (a Ridgid WD 4050 with a wire holder for $79), but none of the local stores had one so we spilt the difference and I was able to get this one for $89.

I hope to get it set-up this weekend.

Where can I purchase the Rigid WD 5500? I do not find it on Home Depot website. Also, how large is the unit - length x width x height?

Thanks.

I've got one too & have been impressed with its power. It's perfect for a small shop & the hose is generously long even without the secondary accordian type hose. Great for cars too.

Does if have a nice big hose or a little one like the actual "shop vac" brand ones?

I traded in my shop vac for a CMan unit a while back and it was a night and day difference. CMan one can darn near **** the concrete off the slab and the Shop Vac had trouble picking up nails even.

I've beat the hell out of that shop vac for four years now and it is still going strong. No issues whatsoever and I'd buy another one in a heartbeat if I needed to.

I just picked up the Kobalt KWM508 and it looks like it might be the Lowes branded updated version of the WD5500. I just got it setup today but it has performed well so far, picking up some saw dust as well as pine needles from taking the christmas tree out. It's got the same 21 ft of hose and 20 ft power cord and the same peak horsepower rating and bin size as the WD5500. The form factor is very similar even down to the wall mount. Going through the manuals for both the Kobalt and the Rigid it looks like they both outsourced the manufacture of their products to the same company. Given that home depot no longer sells the WD5500, the KWM508 may be the next best bet. I would love for someone who has the WD5500 to do a comparison.

I've wanted a big(12+amp) motor on a little(5-8 gallon)frame with the large diamter hose for a very long time. Just something small enough to easily move around and clean things up. Why is that so impossible.

FYI: I just picked up one of these on clearance at HD for $45 in Orlando. They had about 3-5 more of them.
So far, I have no complaints,

Just picked up 2 at my local HD for $19 as well. I like the fact that it's easily removable from the wall bracket. One for the garage, one for the house. The hose and attachments are probably worth more than $19!

don't really need one since I have a roll-around shop vac, but for $20 and change, almost a no brainer.

Thanks for the tip, guys. I'm currently on the phone searching local HD stores right now. The store closest to me sold the last one an hour ago.

I just bought a new sandblast cabinet a week or so ago, and this will be perfect for it.

*EDIT* - no luck, the nine closest stores to me are sold out. I was told they were part of a large purchase for a Father's Day special they had. When the specific time passed, they blew them out to make room for other items.

I snagged a couple today (Sunday the 1st of Aug-2010) for $19.00 each. Heck the replacement filter-the cheapist one-costs $15.00. Buy a few WD 5500's at $19.00 just to get the filter and then have a lot of extra accessories and spare motor for $4.00.

Thanks Guys-GJ and the OP

Ok, I think this may be my first post on here after being a member for a long time.

I gave this a shot at my local HD, (Springfield MO) and after finding none in the display or the area at eye level I found 3 of them shrink wrapped with some other models on a pallet way up in the top row. I asked about price and HD employee walks off to check, comes back with $45. I told him about the $19.00 deal he says “But the computer says $45, sorry”. So today I send my GF over with a copy of the OP’s receipt. Manager says “Nope, $45. That receipt is from another state.” Oh well, $45 not a bad deal but I wanted one for each garage and I didn't want to spend $90. I don’t know what their plan is for the 3 left, stored way up high like that.
