Riding jacket storage?

I see a number of people with store their motorcycle riding jacket on shelving with hangers in the open. Is anyone storing their riding gear in a closet in the garage? I need some ideas. I don't want to store the jackets out in the open. The long metal garage cabinets I've seen have shelves. The other option I thought was Ikea, but then would have to match that to the rest of my garage, and just for 5-6 jackets?

Any pics of where you store your riding gear?

Helmets I'm ok with as I do want them displayed on shevling:beer:

I've been toying with buying something like the Husky 36 in. x 72 in. Welded Floor Combo Cabinet (~$299) to free up one of the hallway closests in the house I'm using now.

I'm hoping htat it'll comfortably hold all my street riding gear and maybe most of the dirt stuff. If your riding jacket has armor then it might have to hang at a little bit of an angle based on the dimensions. I haven't seen it in person yet.

There's also more than a couple wardrobe's at Ikea that might work. There's some cheap pressboard stuff at my local OSH that could do the job too.

Whatever you do, don't use wire hangers as they are hard on leather jackets - you want hangers with wide arms like this.

I have top and bottom rods in the closet. The top rod is about 6'6" from the floor. The bottom one isn't full length, which allows me to hang long garments like my Carhartt coveralls, bee suit, and my winter riding suit from the top rod.

You probably want to do a Craigslist search for wardrobe. U-Line makes some good stuff.

I use a wardrobe cabinet that came out of a hotel that was remodeling all of their rooms. My old neighbor picked up 2 of them for me. I didn't even have to haul them home, only cost me a six pack. :)

My leather is from the UK ... and it stands up all by it's self. Doesn't need a hanger. I'll admit it stupid heavy for summer riding, but when it's damp and cold ... I'm still out there.

Besides spiders and other creepy crawlies, $4k of custom cowhide is NOT hanging in the shop next to the welding supplies. I keep my dirtbike lid in the shop for afternoon fun, but that's about it. Everything else goes in the house closet or storage bins.

Yeah what this man said.

Both helmets and jackets go in the house. I'm not risking putting my head into a spider's nest, that's some horror story stuff that I can't deal with. :eyecrazy:

I have a cabinet similar to the one above, but by Edsal. Picked up on sale from MSC a couple years ago.

Some ideas thank you. I'm going to start scouting craiglist and visit ikea.. I know ikea has them, but I will just have to coordinate with what color I decide to go with the rest of the garage.

I used to keep it all in the house, but the. I would get to the garage and decide it was too hot or too cold, etc... Lol so now it all hangs in the garage on my trailer. I agree that I don't want weld splatter, sawdust, gas odors, etc on my riding gear, hence the closet idea. Plus I will use that closet to store my running clothes, wet suits, and triathlon suits.. Oh and my wife's riding gear lol

While you want to protect the clothing, the cabinet should also have some sort of venting or louvers - you don't want to put a wet or sweaty riding suit in a closed cabinet, 'cause it will be pretty funky when you take it back out. :)

i keep my gear indoors, as I want to make sure my jackets / helmets can dry out after sweating in them all day. having them inside also helps keep them cool, which is nice as opposed to letting them get warm in a garage. just my .02 worth of info.

I keep mine inside the house. I have two complete sets of pants/jackets and 1 set of liners. Whichever set is appropriate for the prevailing weather is simply hanging on the back of the dining room chairs. I ride pretty much every day if the road conditions are acceptable. The other set is in the coat closet.

As noted above, don't use wire hangars, or even simple plastic hangars. In addition to the two heavier hangars above, wet suit hangars are fantastic for heavy riding gear, and easy enough to find.

Inside the house in the front door closet. No way I want to stab my head/feet into a scorpion, black widow, giant centipede ****.

I do keep some boots outside, but they don't get used often so I can take the time to check them.
