I know what situations a right angle is better I.e. tight places but when is a regular drill better than a right angle drill?

Right angles are normally only 3/8 Chuck's and used with jobber length bits to get into tight areas

In my opinion it is much harder to drill exact, straight holes with a right angle drill. I assume this is because the handle is not centered over the chuck like in a regular drill.

Yes, definitely get a regular drill before getting a right angle one. You'll find the need for a right angle drill probably only 10% of the time. Sure comes in handy when you do need it though. And as rapid_robert said, you'd have a hard time applying pressure with the right angle drill.

Anytime you are not in a tight space.

I've got an 18v dewalt 90º, fantastic tool, I wouldn't give it up readily. I also don't particularly care for it as an everyday drill. That said, I did use it at work as an everyday drill for a couple years due to the mix of what I was working on, but generally, the right angle drill is more awkward to handle outside of tight areas.
A regular drill is a lot easier for one handed operation, especially overhead. Until you build up forearm strength, the 90º drill is going to be a wobbly ***** to hold steady. The long body can also be a hinderance in normal sitations when you as the operator are in a position that doesn't lend itself to clearing obstacles with the drill.

The only time that right angle drills are superior to regular drills are when drilling at right angles. Cant put neear enough pressure with a right angle drill, especially through harder metals.

There are other uses.

They're used with screw tip augers to drill studs. Also for high torque drilling. The handle puts you in a better position to apply lots of drilling torque.

I find the right angle better for running down deck screws.
