Rigid 18v or 12v

Looking at Ridgid. Know 18v is more powerful but wonder is the 12v potent enough for most stuff.

Milwaukee is the only 12v game in town. If you still want Ridgid then get the 18v I guess.

If you're buying Rigid for the 'lifetime battery warranty', don't get excited. It's notoriously difficult to get them to actually honor it.

Ridgid's 12V tools are capable, but you don't have anywhere near as much selection.

We have 2 Rigid 18v cordless drills in our fleet and have no problems getting them serviced under warranty. Just make sure you register them online as soon as you buy. The bad part about Rigid cordless drills is that they are junk in my opinion. Free service is no good if they are always breaking. For general use around the house they are fine, but not so great for the work place. We also have 2 14.4 volt Dewalt Nicad xrp's and they are great drills. Heavy use for years with no problems. The batteries do wear out eventually, but they have a long life in my opinion. I just bought a new heavy duty 20v lithium ion dewalt with 3 speed gear box and hammer drill for 190.00 on sale at the dewalt service center. brand new reconditioned do to packaging damage with 3 year warranty on the batteries. http://dewalt.com/tools/cordless-drills-hammerdrills-dcd985l2.aspx

Don't buy into the Rigid line. I did, and sorely regret it.

A few years ago, I bought a 12v Rigid right angle impact driver, that used a squarish NiCad battery. It's great tool that I've used a lot. A few days ago, I attempted to use it, and found the battery had died. I went to home depot to buy a new battery pack, only to discover that they no longer carry the battery line, non can I find them on their website.

This is an unacceptable problem, especially when I can easily get batteries a few generations back for the Real brands of power tools.

So, I recommend sticking with a main brand, ie, Milwaukee, DeWalt, or Bosch.

Also, the Rigid battery packs are secured with a deeply recessed security screw :/

Having made the Rigid error, I strongly suggest you don't. Rigid *****.
Milwaukee has me for life now. Their M12 line is superb. And I will gladly accept a 5 year warranty any day.

Milwaukee the 18&12volt lines are awsome. They have tons and tons of available tools and accessories way more then rigid. . Or dewalt never really had too many issues. Their new 20v line is great.
