I read some stuff on amazon that states rigid's lifetime warranty is no good unless purchased from Home Depot. I looked on their website and it states from Home Depot or other authorized dealer. So are there other authorized dealers besides HD? I couldn't find anything, thought I'd see if you guys knew.

Direct Tools Factory Outlet. They have stores in some outlet malls. Unfortunately the one near me closed but still one down in tax free Delaware. I bought a blemish Ridgid fan from the one in Delaware and it has the approved LSA. Had to mail in the receipt since the online reg didn't work for some reason, but it did get approved. The blems can have the lifetime LSA, the refurb stuff they sell does not. The store told me a lot of blems are actually new but the box is scuffed, dented, etc. I didn't see a single 'blem' on the fan I bought.

because - they told me - the seller wasnt a 'dealer' of ridgid, only a 3 year
doesnt matter to me. saved a few $, and its not expensive ($70)

Get a new salesman. The product needs to be registered typically within 30 days to qualify. And there are plenty of other talk on this, but don't call it a lifetime warranty. It is a Lifetime Service Agreement, and there several differences that benefit Ridgid in deciding if it gets fixed.

When I've taken mine in for battery replacement, they told me I have to bring in the entire tool set including the tool and the battery charger which makes no sense because the battery has a serial number and the serial number is registered.

I don't mind my Ridgid stuff but I'll be replacing it with Milwaukee.

Even when purchased from HD the LSA is at best "possible". ymmv

I've had to replace the batteries for the one I bought in 2011. I just called them up and there was new batteries at my door within a week to 10 days. They didn't want the old batteries back. I had registered them within the 90 day required period.

For the cross border shoppers. Can I buy Ridgid in the US at Home Depot and register it and get coverage in Canada? For example, has anyone bought and registered in the US and had the LSA redeemed in Canada at HD?

IIRC correctly, when I went through the LSA registration, I needed to punch in some information from the receipt. If they say authorized dealer, then this would be a way they can weed out any units from third party sources.

Why bother? With the current exchange rates there's not much of a price difference.

The guy at Home Depot walked me through the process and told me all about the common mistakes people made when registering. Home Depot usually has decent customer service. Those who failed to register messed up and didn't ask Home Depot help resolve the problem.

Based upon other threads here, I'm shocked the online registration didn't work (heavy sarcasm)

Sounds like you did follow up after mailing in, which is good. That appears to be another sticking point - people mail it and forget it. Then Ridgid says "we never saw it."

I'm looking for an air impact wrench with a lifetime warranty, but I can't find any Ridgid models at Home Depot. Anyone know if Ridgid sells them?

Again with the properly registered line. It just isn't that hard to enter the information, then check it three times because of the horror stories you've heard about.:wtf:
After they said they had no record of sale, I reached out to them for the decent service, only to be told "If you don't hear back from us in 90 days".:spit:
I just returned the tools.
But hey, go buy some Ridgid, you'll probably get lucky.
