Just scored one, model EB44242 for $75. The 4"x24" belt part is intact and functioning, but all the loose parts are gone. Can anyone tell me what I need to use it with the round spindles? Just the spindles, or other parts as well?

Parts list and operator's manual available here

https://www.ridgid.com/us/en/oscillating-edge-belt-spindle-sander

Replacements parts available here

Manual says you need the appropriate sand drum, sanding sleeve, spacer ring, and upper spindle washer, and the top knob to use the machine as a drum sander.

Hopefully you have the throat plate and fan (used for all sanding operations, whether drum or belt).

(mine had a buggered up roll pin on the shaft from the factory. I replaced the roll pin.)

What color is your sander? The early ones were tan colored and had an engineered flaw: the belt sander attachment would get stuck to the flatted shaft. Later version is orange and while they fixed that flaw (got rid of the flatted shaft), the new design has a part that breaks routinely---and the part is discontinued, and no longer available! And yet HD is still selling new machines which apparently cannot be repaired when they break (???)

I have the early version (paid $25 for it a few weeks ago complete with all parts). I don't believe it would be worth buying all the parts you need to complete your machine. You need drums, spacer rings, that orange cover thing, and possibly more. Just use it for the awesome oscillating belt sander.

If they sold a quality product to begin with, wouldn't happen.

So you buy a used tool (possibly 10 years old) for $75, and if it goes bad you can justify "swapping" it for a new one at HD? And can you imagine the poor schmuck that buys that returned sander at HD, possibly as a gift, only to find out it was a broken one in the new box? My sister told me of the problems people have returning it, as HD thinks that the customer is trying to pull on a scam on them...

I'm glad I'm not your neighbor.

I was a victim of that at Lowes. My wife picked up a Dremel kit for me and when I unboxed it there was an old POS dremel tool in the brand new kit. I was sick at the time and it was in sale so she bought it for me. Fortunately, Lowes just swapped it for a good factory sealed kit. I have gotten pretty careful and buy nothing now that looks like it has been opened. I have no respect for anybody that admits to doing that stuff.

I thought they sent them back to the manufacturer. I never thought they would put a broken returned item back on the shelf. I know better now. I would not put a ten year old, worn out item in a new box and try to pass it off as new. I wouldn't even bother returning an item for warranty if I could fix it myself for a reasonable cost; I have fixed several grinders that were purchased new online with an $8 gear. I would rather do that than ship them back under warranty. The woman I bought this from, said it had maybe five hours on it and it looks like it. She lost the box with the missing parts and reciept during a move, that's why she sold it cheap. I only had the thought of returning it when I heard there was a critical part that could go bad and was discontinued. Sorry if I came across as some sort of crook or scam artist, I can assure you I am not. I have had guys in the neighborhood come buy offering to get me brand new tools to order, new in the box, out the back door of the store and delivered to me. I refused, because I don't want to encourage theft. I have been a member of this on-line community a long time, and I hope no one thinks I am some sort of criminal.
