Guys that have a Rigid Impact driver, with no bit or trying to drive anything if you pull the trigger on the impact - does the unit click/hammer?

Last week I had a bit break off in the socket, after finally dissembling the unit and removing the broken bit off I noticed now if I just pull the trigger on the impact it starts to click/hammer for a bit then stops.

I don't know if it did this before or not so I'm looking to just see if anyone can confirm. Mine is a X4 gen.

My X4 impact just spins, no hammering. You may have some debris still caught up in there.

Might have to take it apart then I guess again.. It does it then stops and appears to be fine, then I reverse the direction and it does it again then stops.

I am curious to know how the hammering works and when it starts like what activates it - wondering if something is activating it by accident.

It's activated by a certain amount of force working against the direction of rotation. So if the driver encounters resistance, it kicks in the hammer action.

At that force would be against the anvil, correct? Wondering if now its a bit low on grease since I had it opened and some of it might of got wiped off etc?

Any special grease go in these or can I just use automotive or lithium grease?

Yeah it would presumably be against the anvil. Sorry, I'm not super familiar with its inner workings or grease requirements, but a bit of extra lube in there certainly couldn't hurt anything.
