The anchor pots are an awesome idea - will be incorporating a few of those in my upcoming garage! Really looking nice - I will be following this thread . . .
The pull pots have already come in handy when the walls were being squared up, locked onto the chains and off we went.
Really like the "Dutch Hip" detail.
Thanks! I wasn't completely sold on the look at first but its growing on me. I wanted a two foot overhang off the front to keep the rain out with the doors open and it helps break up the expanse of the front with the 12ft. doors.

The roofers stopped by and did a great job with the shingles. Skylights are in and the place is semi-water tight. Just waiting on the garage doors and to build stairs and a landing off the back of the garage for access to the upper floor.

Picked up 9-4-lamp T5HO's for the shop. With all this debate over T5's and T8's in the electrical section, i'll put them up and see how it lights up.
I've installed several 2-lamp T5HO's in a couple warehouses and really liked the light quality so we'll see how these work out.

Thanks Bimmer!

Got some wiring done in the last couple days. A whole pile of receptacles--you can never have too many of those... welding plugs on 3 sides, compressor circuit, lift circuit, exterior pot lights, convenience lights and started on the T5HO's install.

Holy **** thats a lot of outlets haha. Looks great so far!!

Yup! Better looking at them, then looking for them later! LOL

Got the 4ft. 4-lamp T5HO's in. 9 in total and thought i might need to add a few more at first, but its pretty flippin' bright in there so i think i'll be alright for now. Besides once its sheeted it'll brighten up some more.
Also noticed that the "Sylvania" bulbs are somewhat brighter than the other brand i have in there as well. Something to look into if you guys are doing the T5 install.
Cheers!

Although its far from being done and the doors aren't even on, i finally got to use my garage!!!

Best idea ever was putting an i-beam in. Put the beam clamp on, a chain block down to a plate clamp and pulled 4 plates of 1/2" steel out of the truck. I'm stoked!!!:bounce:

That's a killer idea - I'll be doing that too with a trolley on it.

Yeah a trolley is a definite must and on the list of things to get. The beam clamp is paid for, so it'll do for now.

Decided to move in on the weekend, even though the doors aren't on yet. Had to get some things under cover.

The shop is filling up quickly! Picked up a good used Isuzu diesel genset for those stormy winter days when the power goes out. I'll find a good spot close to the house, build a surround for it to keep the noise down and wire up a transfer switch.

Also picked up 4 Durham bolt bins and just need to build a frame for them. Also finally got around to getting some casters on the workbenches, making use of those sheets of steel for the benchtops and found my new favorite tool! Steel circular saw, beats using zipcuts or the gas-axe!

Made some progress on the weekend, got the welding table built, got a stand built for the bolt bins and started sorting/organizing bolts...

The door guy finally showed up, 2-months later... Did a great job on the install, but not the most motivated guy!:dunno:

The exterior is all but finished, still needing some electrical and trim paint. Picked up a Lista cabinet and decided to build a steel rack to get some material up and off the floor. And yes, there was a sale on yellow safety paint...:dunno:

I like the bottom part of your steel rack, good for smaller chunks.

How is it with the I-beam going side to side? Have you used it much? I was thinking of running a piece the other way down the shop so I can sling and trolley the items out and away from my truck or trailer without moving.

Yeah that I-beam has been slick, glad I put it in there. Get one in if you still can--highly recommended! I wanted it close enough to the doors for offloading/loading purposes, but not in the way of the vehicles in there and away from a potential future hoist. A buddy of mine gave me a trolley beam clamp a few weeks ago, and also have a regular old beam clamp. I'm trying to put something together for upper storage at the beam so I can hoist a sled up there and store if for the summer months.
The rack will be anchored to the wall, and yeah I wanted to get the little pieces off the floor with the grading/lower shelf.

Awesome build! For a genset that big, you must be out past bear mountain in the boonies!

Great looking build. Well thought out extras to include during construction phase that most would think of after we complete. Will be watching your progress.
I have always loved those K-Code Mustangs since new.:3gears:

That genny was a unit I replaced on a piece of equipment for the mines. I need to find a good spot for it then run power to either the shop or the house! LOL
I see you're in Vic, i'm up on Millstream, if you're in the area pop in for a beer!
Cheers!

Thanks Bruce, I ran across this site in the initial stages of my build and got some great ideas from some beautiful shops that have been posted here on this site. I'm hoping to get started on that Mustang in the spring, once the insulation is in and the loft is ready for parts storage.
Cheers!

A couple pics of the back of the shop with access to the upper loft/storage. Still needs a few things, exterior lights, some cross-bracing and staining which will have to wait til the spring.
Cheers!

Yeah it's an 8000, you're up there too I take it?
Cheers!

No. I'm based out of Toronto but work for the Canadian Hitachi dealer. Never seen an 8000 in real life but I'm looking for an excuse to get up to Ft Mac to see one and also an EH5000 (truck) now that Shell has one running.

It's pretty cool seeing/working on all of that "big iron"! I contract to the dealer and get sent out for the builds, usually the 1900, 2500, 3600, 5500, 8000's. Often on the re-powers also. Everything else is labelled as "lawn and garden"! LOL
The new trucks are pretty interesting also, I'm spending a bit of time on the "Euc's" these days too.--not sure if that's good or bad, but it pays the same.
Look me up if ever you get up that way.
Cheers!

Well I hope you get many 5500, 8000's and Euc's to commission this year. Even though the "lawn and garden" stuff isn't as glamourous, it does provide market share (keeps the manufacturers happy) and generates more hours for our technicians in total than the mining stuff.
