Riser/Hutch Lighting

In the last two weeks I purchased a KRL722 with SS top and brushed finished drawer guards...then a KRA2454 Riser from another seller...both gloss black. Will mount the riser soon, but looking for solutions to installing LEDs inside the lid like snap on does. The biggest problem is how to route the wires so there is no interference when the door opens and shuts. Snap On does not provide documentation and I'm not paying $500 or $280 for one of their "Kits".

Any help with this one...please.

I got a 4 foot flourescent under Cabinet light at home depot for mine 13 years ago. I have it plugged into a power strip and turn it on when I open the door for the day. It is mounted inside the riser on the top rear edge. No need to mount it to the door. I would check home depot for under Cabinet lights. The led selection is much better now than when I chose my light.

Put a 4'LED from SAMs or Costco and use 3m double stick tape.I like the light more words the front. Light gets in draws better.About $30 not 280-500.haha

LED is already the solution, the problem is wire routing or power contact. For the later, as this picture shows, there is a single contact in the back that makes when the door is fully open. Any help with that?

I ran cord over the top of peg board back .Fished it down and out the back.So from the end of light and top back the cord hangs down 7" along the hutch side,at the top.

I don't have any experience with a contact light that your showing. There might be drilling involved for the two mounts?

I have the same style hutch except for a three bay and mine has 2" holes on the back wall up very high and I ran the wires thru them and into the side locker

Thanks. My concern is with the service loop and harness movement. Will likely just strap/run it down the hing mechanism if I can't find the contact solution I'm looking for. This is the Riser I have. Used the other photo for light orientation and to show Snap On's contact version for reference.

BTW & FWIW...looked at the "older" risers Snap On made and think this version was much better thought out...though much more expensive if you buy off the truck...even with 25% discount.

The main box has magnets on it, stick that up in the corner up top and place the contact on the black box. Put the other contact on top of the hutch door. That way when you open it, it makes the connection and turns on the light. I have the older style hutch with out shocks on the door, this works perfect. The lite from snap on is made for the newer style hutches with hydraulicson the door. Did you not get directions with your lite?

Bit of an old thread, but not too bad so I'm not sorry for it.

But this is what the Snap On KEWLED setup uses: http://i.imgur.com/DJNkD9t.jpg

Power comes from the power supply, to the black box, then through the tabs and springs to those contact plates. When open, the plates contact the pads on the slim black piece to transfer power.

Bringing it up because I'm searching for something to do this. I haven't asked Snap On guy if I can buy just this piece. I can't find anything similar to it for the life of me, even with my superior Google Fu. A pogo pin, like in a van sliding door, is about all I can find, but I don't think they're meant to carry current.
