).I just retired last May from Boeing after 30 years and I worked on assembling of new aircraft. In actual manufacturing Boeing did not use riv nuts for the reason in areas where riv nut might be used we used clip on nut plates. In areas where a the clip on nut plates would not work we used nut plates that were drilled and fastened to the structure. Riv nuts were not used as they have to be perfectly installed or they could/would spin if they are slightly over torqued.Some auto use, but not much. I'd say assembly or maybe aerospace manufacturing
There would also have to be a means of preventing it from unscrewing from the rivnut. I am sure they don't use allthread and Loctite. Thay are undoubtedly made from two pieces and you could probably kluge one together, as you said but commercially they are made to stay together.i'm sure your rivnut stud is just a rivnut with a little all thread screwed into it.
