I was wondering if the ones on amazon are the same quality as fastenal? Maybe you buy yours somewhere else. So who do you buy yours from? Do you use one size more then the others? I won't be using any metric as my race/street car is all standard size. Also what is the difference between the small and large heads? Please point this first time user in the right direction!

What size are you needing ? I buy mine at Carquest and I have bought them at the local hardware when in a hurry. I might have some small aluminum ones in like #6 or # 8. What are you building ?

I have most from #8, #10, 1/4, 5/16, 3/8 in aluminum that I got with a kit. I want to use steel ones to be able to mount some brake lines, fuel lines and other stuff on my car. I haven't even used any of the aluminum ones but figured steel ones would be better anyway for what I want to do. I also want to be able to mount some to my 2x2 box tubing work bench to add some stuff.

I got mine from Zoro tool. If you are using them in sheet metal, absolutely buy Annular cutters in the right sizes to make your holes. Smooth round cuts with no deformation.

Also pickup a decent installation tool, you'll want that too.

I have used both, I had to make some cheater bars to crush 3/8 steel inserts. I posted a pic of a car I built awhile back and had came across some nice aluminum 2 piece clamps for the brake lines. They worked out nice ran them along the frame connectors and used a couple on the rear end. I do not remember the brand but thought I would pass it along.

Believe it not, Astro is the biggest name in rivet nut tools in the US

As stupid as this sounds, plastic hollow wall anchors work well on blind sheet metal holes as long as the load is not too high.
