Rivet Removal Tools?

Does a specialty tool exist to remove pop rivets? Can someone make any recommendations? I tried drilling it out and pushing it out from the other side but no luck. The head is rather big. Is there a specialty tool for removing rivets other than a regular drill bit to make the process easier?

Please and thanks.

Huh?

Drill the head, punch it from the front.

If you want to punch it from the blind side you have to remove where it's been expanded.

There are some tools for solid rivets but Im not sure if anything exist for a pop rivet...never looked. I've always either drilled them out or use a hammer and chisel or air hammer with chisel bit to take off the front or back side and pound the remaining part out with a hammer and punch.

Not sure why the method you are trying isnt working. Make sure you are using a drill bit either the same size as the rivet to drill through it completely, or a bigger drill bit on the head will usually separate the head from the rest of the rivet and you can hammer the rest out with a punch.

If it's an aluminum rivet, I just drill it, but I had to remove a couple stainless ones recently and used my M12 right angle die grinder to get rid of most of the head, then a spring loaded center punch finished it off

Just need to drill deep enough and with the correct size bit to break the head off. Drill diameter should be just a few thousandths smaller than the rivet shank diameter.

Drilled out thousands of both solid and pulled rivets over the years, in every material from aluminum to stainless to regular steel and monel.

Aircraft Tool Supply do make a specific tool for drilling out pop rivets, the best thing about it is that it has serrated jaws to hold the rivet to stop it spinning. Use mine quite a lot and saves a lot of time if any of the rivets are loose. They also do one to suit solid rivets as well, got that and it has been very useful.
