Actually it did. I did cap my tool and electronics though which really sucked since when I signed up for that policy I let them know I had a lot of both.

That forced me to downsize in the tool dept, but I am using my tools less these days since my income is better and I own new cars usually with full warranties

In the electronics department, I don't have too much crazy stuff going on. I am not a gamer, I have finally upgraded my 32" TV to a 46" HDTV, and have modest stuff otherwise. I don't have time much for TV/Movies during the week and would rather be out and about.

They also covered the meat that was stolen and frozen pizza.

A friend of mine had her home broken into a few years back. She had two German Shepards in the house. The thieves beat them almost to death with a shovel. Having the dogs beaten traumatized her more than the property she lost.

Get one or more of these.

A gun doesn't work when you are not home. If you left your gun behind and unlocked you added to the problem. If someone is breaking into your home when you are still there, you better be thankful of that gun (or whatever else you need to defend that place).

I agree with dogs. However; they are easily dismissed if someone is serious. For the most part, they are a great defense. No serious perp wants DNA/Blood left behind.

It's like personal protection. 1) I know how to fight 2) I carry an OC spray 3) I carry a knife 4) I sometimes carry a CZ-P01 5) I always have a cell phone. 6) I know how to run if everything above failed.

Most folks aren't breaking into homes.

I had my old house broken into twice. Both times was in the middle of the day, 1:00pm best we could guess. It had to be people that knew our work schedule. It was the house only, not the garage. What a horrible feeling. I feel you pain!

Back in October someone got into the house behind me at approx 330ish am. Went in thru a window and stole thousands in jewelry and cash. More than likely targeted since the owner was in Florida. Cops swarmed the house for 2 days ensuring stepped up patrols. Haven't seen the cops around since. I am typically home all day and night since I am self employed. It would have helped if my neighbor actually set the alarm he had. It's a nerve racking experience all the way around.

That ***** man sorry to hear this. I got stabbed and robbed and left for dead in 1983, changed my whole life (long story) I'm glad no one got hurt in your case, you can always replace the tools.

I log chained my rolling tool boxes to some heavy work benches to slow them down. Building fully alarmed, monitored wirelessly. They like to smash and grab before the cops get there so make everything harder to get to.

i'm a big fan of the alarms in cars that will text you immediatley if triggered. i have one in my car. you could easily install one into a house if you had a 12V powerpack. hook up door switches and a microwave sensor in the garage. if anything gets triggered you knwo straight away...you can even get one with a camera in it that will take a pic(s) of the perps.

Wow. I'm sorry to hear. I'm also amazed that you managed to keep track of the inventory & pricing. I gotta inventory my tools. It's WAAY too late for me to even try to price things.

If you have any idea who did it maybe we could all pay them a visit with our favorite 1/2" breaker bars held high....to start.

A few of us tracked it down to a house about 5 blocks away. Very similar purple 4x4 with writing in the windows and stuff hanging from the mirrors.

Also almost daily they had 'garage sales' of tools and other stuff.

The local police (most of which have since been terminated) said it was too coincidental.

They weren't worth the trouble. They had nothing to lose. 10+ people living in one home, I'd probably be a lottery win for them with I put one in the hospital.

It wouldn't have helped and let many that just leave their gun at home on their night stand, that would have been stolen as well.

I also don't believe JUST a security system will help...it's got to be comprehensive. ADT and the like just rely on a sensor at the front and back door and then one motion detector in a 'common area'. I have every window, door, opening covered, plus multiple motion and glass break sensors.

Also locks only go so far when a window is an easy target. Doing all hurricane rated doors and glass goes a long way. Also lighting and surveillance.
