They are brand new to the market. I just saw it in Pro Distributor. The biggest issue is the $300+ that it costs versus a $50 spring rewind cord reel.

Yep, brand new. Took them to SEMA and became the buzz of the tool show. Won the Popular Mechanics SEMA 2012 Editor's Choice award. Costs $279 for portable, $299 for the ceiling. You will never own another reel again. The reels were also on Outlaw Garage tonight. Rich Wood, Rich Evans, West Coast, Galpin, and more than a few famous bike builders now own these reels because they rock. They save you time, protect your projects from damage, they're safe and they outlast the $50 reels made in China. Check out www.roboreel.com

As best I can determine the RoboReel is made in Mexico.... if I'm going to be paying top dollar for something I would much rather prefer it be made in the USA.

My only real hesitation with it is that on a couple of YouTube videos I've seen of it the rewind motor sounds a bit weak almost like it's straining just to rewind the cord.

Or maybe I should just wait about 6-months and but the Harbor-Freight Chinese knockoff for 1/6 the price! :) <-- just joking!

If it came in 20 amp with 75' of cord at that price I may be interested. I have bought 5 of the 15 amp ones from lowes for about $65 and two have kicked the bucket. The roboreel could replace two of them due to the fact that it swivels 360 (limited by your cord that plugs it to the wall).

While I'm at my parents place in St. Louis through the holidays I sent them an email to see if there is a local dealer where I can see it in person. I'm really interest in it, but this is definitely not something I'm going to purchase sight unseen... I got to lay my hand on it first! :)
