Apparently they are becoming more and more common. Couldn't really find any good reviews.
I spend about 2 hours a week on average mowing the lawn in the summer. If I could use that time for something else I think the investment might be worth it. These things are pricey. Most run in the 2k range. If they are unreliable or get stuck everywhere then I'll continue sitting my *** down on the riding mower and sweating it out in the humid swamp heat.

Most are like a dog fence. You have to bury a wire so it won't go out of bounds. Buy a model sized larger than you need. Otherwise the thing will always be mowing. You can set a program on most of them for when it is and isn't allowed to mow. Most people turn them off from midnight to 6am. If you lawn is rough or there is a chance of it becoming stuck, you'll need to fix those homes. People that have them seem to like them, but its almost another hobby in itself. Takes awhile to figure out all the quirks and get them working like they should.

There's so much more I do when mowing the lawn to get it right that I wouldn't trust the robot to do it correctly or completely. Fortunately, my lawn only takes me about 30 minutes a week when bagging it. I don't have much grass in the back yard.

If you go to Youtube they have videos were they test a few different models side by side in a big field. I think I searched out Husqvarna robotic mowers to get the results. I can't go to Youtube at work.

If you have a yard as flat as a pool table and about the size of a postage stamp fine. If not I would pass. Stihl sells one in Europe under the Viking name. I would invest in one until they are common place, which will be years down the road. In this area we are just seeing wide spread acceptance of zero turn mowers. If you have a tractor style mower a zero turn will reduce your cutting time up to 48 percent.

Well I definitely don't have a glass smooth lawn nor is it flat. Guess I'll continue watching these things till they get more advanced or better able to cope with larger uneven lawns.

As to the wire around the perimeter to be mowed, I think they have units with GPS where the wire isn't needed anymore.
