Working on my new, to me, vise Rock island 143. Just used scraps I had around the shop. The stand is aluminum with the top and bottom being large channel. Will do a little welding tomorrow then take it apart to polish aluminum and paint vise the closest I can find to the original green. Having fun, wife thinks I’m nuts.

Yep it original. You don’t often see all the parts for this old vise. From what I see it was made somewhere around 1910

Just finished the 143. green color is close to the original (well sort of) as I could get. Works great opens with one finger as it should. Now it can go with my other baby’s. Need to add on to barn

Looks great! Question, did you, or are you planning to, fill the column with concrete or something?

No, the column is a eight inch aluminum tube. I was thinking about mounting it on casters (I have some metal ones) so I could move it around. If I do, I will do some welding to enlarge the bottom plate to give it a wider stance. I won’t use it much cause I have a few others that are for daily use. Just like to collect and redo. My reed (the blue one) is the big boy that I use most often.
