I have a Rock Island 577 vise that I want to sell and was wondering if anyone knew what it might be worth, the jaws, bar, and gears are in great shape. Actually I think it is in great condition, but I do not have a need for a vise this large. Any help would be greatly appreciated and yes it is for sale and any offer will be welcome.

Thanks,

Lionel

Your location would help also as it ain't easy to ship a vise this size (as BMWPOWER will attest to). Someone close would be more willing to pick it up than wanting to pay a hefty (pun intended) shipping fee.

I just measured the jaws on it, it is a 6" vise, and it weighs right at 145 pounds. (If the scale I used is accurate) and it feels like it.

I am located in Springfield, TN (just north of Nashville)

Thanks,
Lionel

I believe the 577 has 6" jaws and weighs in at 100lbs.

I'm guessing it's worth about $5 tops.

Since you're new here, I'm willing to help you out and take it off your hands for $10.

edit:

I'd estimate shipping would be sround $75 to either coast. I'd guess the value would be somewhere around $150, so if you can sell it locally, you might get that much. If I didn't already have a dozen vises, I'd be more than willing to pay about $80 + shipping.

Nice looking vice, I love the Rock Islands! Jaws look to be in great shape, too bad it missing the locking lever. Looks like that vise has been stored outside and forgotten about (read barely used, but exposed to the elements a lot.)

I would estimate the value at about $100 but as has been stated before, shipping would kill it. Try to sell it local or check into a cheaper freight option. Looks like a great resto project for someone. I'd be interested in it as such. If you want to, work up a price to ship it to Colorado (80906). PM me if you are interested.

Thanks to all that replied, I put the vise on Craigslist for the Nashville area and a guy from Memphis emailed me about it and he actually drove over from Memphis and picked it up this afternoon. I was able to get $110.00 for it that is going towards an old Buick 215 c.i. v8 for one of my MGB's, but best of all he is going to refurb it with his son and add it to his collection.

Once again thanks for the help.

I just picked up this vise from the OP today. Nice guy to deal with, and he was willing to hold it for me until I could pick it up (about 3.5 hrs away).

I was totally blown away with the size of this thing. The pictures just don't do it justice. Despite a bit of surface rust it's really in nice condition. I have a newer Wilton 1765 and this vise just dwarfs it. It's easily double the size and nearly double the weight of the Wilton.

This Rock Island....rocks :deathmeta

Glad you liked it, if you need any additional history on it I will talk to my father in law and maybe he can give me some more insight on it other than what we already knew that being it was his fathers and he got it while he worked in the ship yards in VA. Also were you able to get a hold of that guy giving away the car parts?

A bit of detailed history would be great if you can get it. Didn't get a chance to contact the car parts guy, maybe tomorrow. Thanks for the restaurant recommendation, the family and I had a great lunch before we headed out.

measurements and weight would help. im guessing its a 5'' probly around 70lbs and in the condition its in $60-100

When I read this after looking at the pictures behind a decent size Riding Mower I had to LOL!!! I was thinking at least double that!

That is a nice find I would have to say. IMHO she will be very beautiful after restoration.

I am glad it didn't go to waste! I am too far away or I would have picked her up for sure.

Keep us updated on the restoration man!
