Rock Solid Polycuramine turned out a bit splotchy

What do you think happened to my floor then? When I laid it down, it was smooth, consistent, and gorgeous. When I came back the next morning, it had 'shrunk up' or 'beaded up' on the previously coated surface.

If you got it down inside the 7 days, my guess would be something wrong with the product or contamination on the floor. I couldn't tell you for sure. Generally, coating that are applied outside their recoat window will easily peel. They don't do what yours did.

We have a video on our site of two women who put down a metallic RockSolid floor coating and were doing some repairs to it after a year. Rust-Oleum had to ship them product three times before they got it right. They had issues with a burst bag, leaking bags, and something else.

The point is, Rust-Oleum has had some problems with quality control with this product. I believe it's one of the reasons they work fairly well with customers to offer refunds or new product.

Yeah, no peeling issues, seems well adhered to the previous coat. Also, no contamination. Garage was closed between the 2nd and 3rd coats, barely walked on it.

Super weird. Honestly I'm sick of recoating this, I have another refund check from Rustoleum on the way, but I think I'm going to leave it as is for now and finish the rest of the garage. Might recoat in the future, but for now I'm just going to see how durable it is.

If it stays adhered well, you could later take a floor buffer with a sanding screen to the surface and then apply a tinted polyurethane coat. It would bring out the gloss, it would be U.V. resistant (RockSolid is not), and it would be much more abrasion resistant.

Update: It looks exactly the same and is very durable. Kind of happy with it at this point, to be honest. I drive cars on/off it and work in my garage all the time, and it's held up great, looks identical to the last day I finished.

I'm sorry that I am bringing a 5 years old post up, but I ran into the same exact issue with Rocksolid. I bought a 2.5car kit for a 1 cr garage, and it came out very spotty. Some areas look shiny and amazing, and some areas look thin and dry. Rustoleum sent me a second kit, but I passed the 7 days recoating window (more like 12 days). I didn't park the car on it, or even walk on the final product. What preperations do you recommend a this point? Sanding it down and what type of solvent did you use? Thanks!

Best to check with Rustoleum as to what they recommend for prep between coats. This is a common problem with this product, they never give enough material to do the job properly, especially if the concrete is a bit abosrbent.

Hi - Same thing just happened to me. They are sending me 3 kits to apply a second coat. They also just stated that if I apply it within 30 days ( YES 30 Days) there is no need for surface preparation. I used 4 (2.5 car) kits on a 1000 sq ft garage. That was more than enough product to cover the area adequately. My temp outside was about 76 degrees with a 75% relative humidity.

This is a common problem. They give way less material than is needed. Great packaging but many issues like above. General rule is don’t buy garage coatings at home centers especially for garage use. Basements maybe.
