I have a set of early 70's ford small block cylinder heads that I want to put screw in studs and guide plates into. I once saw a tool to cut the 1/4" or so required off of the stud boss. The tool I saw attached to a 1/2" drill and piloted in the 5/16" stud hole and cut the boss down flush. I don't know if this tool was commercially available or was home made. Has anyone heard of or seen such a tool for sale.
Thanks
Andy.

Yes - I know exactly what you are talking about, but I can not recall who made those. The last time I used one was in 1987 or so and my memory is not what it used to be! I will ask around for ya, though!

Man, you just got me thinking. I used to do this with Cleveland heads all the time. This was a must to run solid lifters and adjustable/roller rockers. I've got one somewhere, I've gotta go find mine. I've loaned and never had returned more tools than the average American ever had. I think mine was a Crane. You have to be careful as they are not fool proof. If you aren't watching what you are doing you can mill the stud boss on an angle. This leads to the push rod binding in the guide plate and will break 3/8" push rods like pencils at 8000 r.p.m.s. Don't ask me how I know this one.
