Picked up the Rockler portable router table. It seems to be a very cool idea given my very limited space in the garage workshop. The problem now is to mount my Milwaukee 5615-20 1-3/4HP router. I could only mounted directly from the bottom with the plate in place, and I could not really mount it on the plate and then drop in as the router handle is on the way and I don't seem to be able to fit it through the plate opening. This kind of make it less portable. Does anyone had the similar experience or advice?

Ok, I called Rockler tech support, but could not get much out off what I’ve already known - only listed models on the site are supported. Anyway, out of desperation, I picked up a used Craftsman from Craigslist. Sadly, it was actually worse, not only it does not drop in, the rockler mounting plate’s pre drilled holes did not lined up for the craftsman. Errr... as I just added another router to my collection that would not fit, I decided to drill my own mounting holes and left the Rockler the a “permanent” residence for the Craftsman.

Depending upon where the router switches are mounted, could you remove the handles to obtain the clearance through the top? I have a Freud Router mounted in a stationary top and do not recall issues, but I can't tell you the last time it was removed from the table(likely never). In the shop I worked in the majority of my career we always had Porter Cable routers and in quick table set-ups we kept a single base mounted and installed a motor/bit into that.

Sounds like you have a solution but if your Milwaukee has an easy to swap plunge base you could permanently mount the fixed base to the table.

Good point. Silly me. I have been so stuck on getting the "Drop-in" feature to work. It is really true I could just leave the fixed base in place. I might loose some function of using the Rockler mount plate as a flat edge glide. Since I have the glider for it regardless, I might not miss too much.
