Why not drill the hole the right size? What's the point of those things?
I'm as tool addict as the next guy, but really?

When I did a google search I found a couple of reasons...

Holds shanks snugly enough for vertical or horizontal storage.

Polyethylene material helps keep out moisture to prevent rust.

Wood expands and contracts too much. You really need an insert of some sort to keep them in but not soo tight that you can't grab them without cutting yourself, particularly the straight bits.

For $8, I doubt they sold a lot of them but at $4...seems awfully tempting.

You guys must not frequent Rockler much. They always have sales like this especially on there own products. There’s either good sales or gift cards involved. I get a 20-25% off coupon every few months. I describe there sales like Kohl’s.

joeysh03,

I am a little confused by your post...

Are you indicating that one can routinely get a better price than $3.99 for this item?

Best regards,

Scott

I think he is saying that 25-50% off house brand stuff isn't clearance for them, it's normal sale discounts.

Honestly not sure why anyone would buy house brand rockler when it's regular price. Their sale prices are what most of the stuff is really worth. Decent stuff but overpriced for typical construction and quality

Better price than $3.99, no, but can find it for that price a lot. Rockler always has sales on there in-house items. Just like harbor freight, if you pay full price for an item that crazy. Almost ever Rockler item goes on sale at some point. Just look at there website and you will see what’s talking about

You could take a different approach and just use plastic boards to eliminate the expansion/contraction problem.
