I'm looking to add some equipment to my garage and came across this on CL. It is a 23-612 model.

He is asking $125 and before I contact him I wanted to get an opinion on it. right now I only have a 1/6 hp wen grinder that is quite tired. Is his asking price a fair value or should I pass to avoid a low-ball offer?

Thanks?

First, make sure it is single phase and not 3 phase power. Some of those old Rockwells were 3 phase. My guess would be that he has it listed at $125, but willing to accept $100. It looks complete with the shields and all. The plexi could easily be replaced. If it runs smooth and sounds good, I'd probably offer $85-90 and go to $100 if I really had a need for it. They are a good machine.

I had an old Rockwell that was built by Baldor. Look on the data plate...

I have a larger Rockwell and it is the smoothest grinder I've ever had. Mine is single phase but it still takes quite a while to wind down. When it's on you can't hear the motor over the wind coming off the wire wheel. Listen to it run, if it's good I'd get it.

I just picked up the exact same one for $25 at a garage sale, nicer condition but needs new wheels. Was very happy to get it into the truck...
