Here are some pictures. The shifter knob (prominent in the first two pics) is pushed in/pulled out to engage/disengage the drive, but it has started to slip out of gear after just a minute or two of sawing.

Is the knob popping/slipping when pulled out or pushed in. A casual look seems like there are two drive engagement dogs (#159 for example) for the gear-to-pulley drive. The dogs and/or the mating engagement of the gear may be worn/damaged so that drive dog surfaces are no longer square or fully engaged. Cutting pressure back feeds to the drive dogs, which are pushed out of engagement. This is somewhat common on older machines that weren't shifted correctly (as the manual clearly advises) and damage to the "teeth"/dogs happened when they were banged into shifting under power/rotation. A similar condition happens to a lot of the J head Bridgeport turret mills and it's an awful noise when someone starts the mill without being fully engaged. If so, either a replacement component(s) or weld the worn/damaged surfaces and machine back to spec. I may be wrong, hard to say without seeing it in person. Good luck

I found a torn/mushed "o" ring on disassembly of mine. My shift rod had two slots machined into it. I never found a clear pic....my eyes/phone didn't help.....that showed two o rings and where they went. I went to the local hardware store and found a few matches that fit. The rings and pins are the only thing I replaced. I felt the rings took all the slop out of the shafts. That may be contributing to your shifting issues.

Delta 14" band saw lower wheel disassembly
Have a vintage Delta band saw that is being torn down for a rebuild and having a challenge with removing the key on the shaft so that I can slide it out of the lower housing assembly. Any tricks to doing this? The shaft shifts back and forth about a 1/2" and cannot get the right leverage to...
