Anyone have/use or know anything about a Rockwell 21-100 vertical mill. Going to an estate auction that has one. Seems like a good size for my use. Thanks jd

Here is some info:

http://www.lathes.co.uk/rockwellmillers/

I've looked at these to buy a few different times. They are a nice small size and sometimes 1-ph motors. The ones I looked at ended up going fairly high for the price. More than I wanted to pay at the time.

Keep in mind that it will not be as rigid or have the power of a full size mill. It would be better than the 3-in-1 mill/lathe machines, but just be aware of it's limitations.

The upside, it that it will be easier to haul and easier to move.

Awesome little mills for a home shop or hobby if you're tight on space. Way better than HF or Grizzly stuff. But, they still aren't super rigid. On a side note they are super desirable, so if you pick it up for a decent price, wouldn't have a problem re-selling it if you decide you didn't want it.

They're popular with the home shop machinist and hobbiest because they're smaller, lighter, and easier to get into basement shops than the full size mills. Consequently, the going price is typically high.

Like was previously mentioned, there is a market for these machines so it can always be sold.

I was looking for one before I found my used Bridgeport, at a fraction of the price that these small mills typically go for.

For the right price, I'd just get it. Like mentioned, they often sell for the same or more than a BP or full size mill just because of the ease of transport and space requirements. They are pretty desirable. Any mill is better than no mill :)

Nice mill for a limited space, the R8 spindle is a plus, check the gear that is used to tilt the head they are aluminum and can be stripped by a careless operator, parts are difficult to find but not impossible, I like mine but am upgrading to a Bridgeport because of the larger capacity. Overall the quality seems much better than the imports I looked at.

I can tell you that my little 11" Rockwell lathe is built to last, so I'm sure the mills aren't too shabby either. I've never seen one in person though, so I can't say for sure. Take pictures!!

I have one, picked it up for $800 about 5 years ago. Minor damage to the table. Nothing I can't work around. Let me know if you have any questions. I did just now learn that the head tilt gear is aluminum.
