Rods garage - how to make the floor even

Hey Gents,

Getting ready to put the porcelain floor down and have a couple of high spots that need to come down. Looks like there was some damage from parked vehicles and the PO put cement down and left it a little high.

Renting a floor grinder tomorrow.

How do I check to see there is no crown?

I was going to screw a couple of 2" x 4" together.

That's a good idea, but I don't think it needs to be that perfect and I just want to take down the humps.

What about self leveling concrete?

It is really only a 12' x 2' spot that need to come down.
I would have to level a lot to flatten this out.

Go by feel. You dont need a 20' straight edge. You can probably get away with a 8' piece. I'm not sure if a 2x4 will be straight enough. Try to get a piece of something straight. I would use a piece of particleboard (Only 'cause I have lots laying around) Try to maybe look for an engineered stud ( something engineered will be perfectly straight) You might be able to use a 4', 6', or 8' level if you have one too.

You'll know if the floor is high, as it will rock back and forth. Move it around the floor, and use a pencil to get a rough idea of the outlines of the high spot. Grind till your pencil marks are gone..... Repeat as necessary.

I actually had a 8 ft ruler that worked perfect.
You can also feel the floor with the grinder.
This thing is really really really slow!
Plus the dust does add up after a while. I kept telling myself that when the
Tile is done I won't have any dust!
