After being in my first home for 3 years I finally got started on my shop. We have a little over one acre. My neighbor and I decided to shops at the same to see if we could get a little better pricing on things. We shopped around and finally picked a contractor to do a turn key deal. The more we looked around though we found a concrete guy that gave us a better foundation for a better price. So much better I was able to get the driveway extension done as well.

Ended up doing a 40x40x14 weld together metal building with 3" insulation.

I will start with the foundation. It consisted of 12x24 exterior beams and 2 12x18 interior beams going front to back and side to side, (so total of 4 interior beams) with a 4" slab with #3 rebar on 18" centers. The exterior beams had 4 #4 rebars tied with #3 supports.

The building consisted of a 12" i-beam center frame, everything else was 8" c-channel. Everything was completely welded together. The overhead doors were insulated commercial doors. The center door on the front was a 12x14 with a high lift option, the side door on the front was a 10x12 and the door on the back wall was a 10x12 with a high lift option too.

Next on the list will be getting electricity from the house out to the shop. Currently waiting on a quote from the Co-op to see which way to go...pay a little extra and let them do it or do it myself. Just have to wait and see what they come back with next week.

Ha-ha....after it was first up, I looked around and thought to myself I wish I could have afforded to have another 20' in one direction. Gotta start somewhere though.
