Can you guys recommend a good roll around battery charger?
I don't need anything fancy, 2a 10a 40a and 100a engine start is what I'm pretty sure my old one had. Bonus if it can also do 6v and 8v batteries for golf carts but it's not a requirement.
Seems like schumacker makes a few, are they a good brand? I want something that's going to last. Die Hard also has a couple options.
Thanks!

I'm good with $200-$300, I just don't use one enough to shell out snapon money for one.
Schumacher doesn't have great reviews on amazon.

Solar has been making them for a long time, and frankly mine has had a rough life, and still keeps saving my ***. Brought batteries back to life that I thought for sure were gonners.

But frankly with todays jump packs, they are making those chargers obsolete. This one has been amazing for me:

But even THOSE are being replaced by the new super-cap jump packs that can use the smallest amount of charge left in a DEAD battery, charge the super- capacitors and then jump the battery. Incredible technology.

I've got an older MAC charger that I bought new about 20-years ago and it has worked flawlessly. It was made by Schumaker and merely marketed by MAC so I would assume it is similar to other makes who used Schumaker's. It also has a load test capability but merely the heater style, still a quick, simple and effective test.

I realize the OP found what he wanted, but for the weekend warriors:

The Craftsman one can be had for under $100 if you watch sales. 200A engine start. It was even less expensive than HF when I was looking. The few times I've used my Craftsman it's worked fine.

edit: the power cord is disturbingly short. I bought a 15' extension cord and just keep it plugged into the charger cord and wrapped around the handle at all times

watch out for the boost/jump settings. some of the cheap chargers put out 16+ volts in that mode, and that can fry electronics/lights.

Aren't those a bit
Dinosaurish?
With the advent of the little Brick jumpers, I'm at odds finding a use for a 200 amp, 75lb, 2sqft of floor space, drag out the extension cord, jumper item.
A little 6/12v, 2/6/10amp charger to go with the little brick and it'll all fit in a shoe box.

What is the advantage to the giant units?

Weight. Built like a tank.

They're darn heavy and they're full of copper.

We have the little carry-round, and it will charge / jump 4D / 8D 24v trucks and heavy equipment. And last for years.

We have one of the roll-arounds that looks like its been through a war, and it still works.

You want one of these when you're dealing with real HD situations. Probably overkill for the average homeowner, home car shop guy. But when you're dealing with big Cat earthmoving / mining type equipment, they're what you want.

Made in USA battery Charger

3 different sizes. You probably want the middle one.

I've had this charger on order for almost 3 months now, getting a little frustrated. I'm pretty patient, and I understand stuff happens with suppliers/parts but I still cant get an expected ship date because their supplier had a bad run of a gauge I think. I'm about to ask for my money back and get a snap on or blue point.

I 'm not sure Snap-on makes or sells anything like those anymore. :headscrat

I'm just using the Ctek chargers for actual battery charging. I have two now, a 4.3 amp and a 7 amp. I use both at the same time (with batteries disconnected or isolated) on three of my vehicles that have dual batteries.

If I need to jump something dead I just jump it off my diesel truck. I have one of the old Sears rolling chargers, I haven't used it in a decade. I also have a smaller Sears charger with 50A start, never use that either.

The romantic hills of central Umbria, Italy,
I got a new Lincoln (Century) charger for the shop when the last small one I had gave up the ghost (doing electrolysis rust removal duty), I honestly could not be happier with it... they've been around for damned near ever (my dad had one in his shop, my uncle in his... they just freaking work). So far it's been a trooper and a beast and has yet to give me grief.

This is the one I got...

Made by the folks who bring you those red tombstone welders...

I have an old NAPA roll around in the shop from the 1980s. At home I have the Ctek 56-535 charger and a Clore JNC-770 jump pack. I just got the Autowit battery-less jump pack and will see how that goes.

I've had one on order for a couple of months too. Not exactly impressed!

I have one of the Schumacher "farm and ranch" chargers. It's not a roll around it is carried but it's the same thing as the roll around minus a timer. 6 and 12v has 10, 30 and 200a start. Works great.

been 5 months and still nothing, no help when I call they just say they will look into it and never call me back. Hopefully PayPal will refund my money and I'll buy something else.

I like the Associated stuff I have. USA made too! Little more money than the Rizk though.

Between a JNC jumper pack and BatteryMINDers, I have not used my Snap-On Battery charger in maybe 3 years and I have a lot of batteries with some costing $375 each. I would ask myself if you really need one and why. Just my use opinion.

To update this thread, I would not suggest doing business with this company. After countless phone calls and conversations about them giving me a refund since I never received a charger. they agreed to refund my money. Weeks went by and nothing so I filed a claim with PayPal and got my money back in a few days.
This place is a joke.

For guys not dealing with 24v systems, I see no reason to have anything bigger than a fairly decent bench top battery charger. I have never found the engine start mode on a battery charger able to start anything no matter how big, power and expensive the battery charger. I have a jumper pack for starting. For charging l like low and slow and a little bench top does that fine.
