Toolbox looks great. I have been thinking of going a mesh area to allow water to drain, was thinking of using a chunk of mud flap underneath to keep water from coming off the road and into the box.

Was home a bit early from work today so I did some more work on the trailer, like adding the tail light bar to the roll off frame and the tongue jack. I also needed to remove the roll off frame from the lower frame, but I was really curious on what the new cylinders dump angle was. I measured it at 46 degrees but I also checked the cylinders stroke measurement and I still had 6" more stroke but my skid steer maxed out its lift height so ill probably get 50 degree dump angle.

Not quite. It will power a hydraulic pump. By definition, it is a gen set.

The rails are now 3" off the ground so I will make my bins have a larger angled portion on the front of the skid so the winch will pull the front up and on the rear roller.

Some more trailer progress. I mounted the hydraulic tank to the frame but I was worried that the tank could eventually crack at a weld due to the weight of the oil bouncing the tank going down the road, because it was held on by the 4 bolts on the back of the tank. So I added a bolt on support to the front of the tank which made a big difference. The other 2 axles came in this week so I began to mount the axles/tire to the trailer and discovered a problem. The front axle would hit the bottom of the cylinder if it compressed to much. To fix the problem I just cut the tacks holding on the mounts and modified them so the cylinder sits 1.5" higher. Since theirs a lot of moving parts I did the final assembly before paint, I discovered that the eye for attaching the winches hook hits the stabilizer roller if you want to lift the bed but not lower stabilizer. I cut the eye mount off and it has lots of clearance now so I'm going to add a D ring to the back so it can still clear but I can still have a place to secure the cable. While doing all the test for parts clearance I made the cylinder stroke out and the trailer has a 55 degree dump angle

Seeing this build makes me want to build a trailer like this. Definitely can keep the bed lower and obviously you can get a nice dump angle. What are the local rules as far as homemade trailers go? In the states we could have DOT issues, any concerns?

Last trailer I built (not here in ME) you just needed to keep your major material & parts receipts and get it inspected for lighting & brakes. They issued a s/n and iirc, create a title.
I helped a buddy build a very similar trailer to f150's just bigger and heavier. It was designed to move loaded 20' containers. We both used them for temp storage on job sites. While the bed or body did not detach ( just a flat bed) it tilted so the tail hit the ground and we used cylinders & cables for the winching action just like they do on a "roll off" truck. That dang thing was 9000# empty!

The rules here for homemade trailers are pretty laxed. But do to my trailers number of axles and GVW I will have to get a annual safety on my truck and trailer
My steel yard delivered the material for the bin and part of the flatbed. The bin is going to be 5'x10' and 30" deep which is 4.6 yards. The flatbed is going to be a deckover which is 8'x14.5' with a inset wood deck.

Some more progress this weekend, I finally got the fenders mounted. I couldn't get one piece tri axles fenders for my size of wheel setup, all the pre-manufactured fenders are for trailers running 7k axles with 16" wheels. I hate the look of a tire that doesn't fill the fenders properl. So I new the only way to get the fender to fit the tire properly was to custom make a setup. My first thought was to cut up 2 tandem fenders and make a tri axle fender, but remembered seeing semi trucks with single fenders over each axle whether it was tandem, tridem, or quad axle setup. So i decided to do a similar look on my trailer but I also made plates in the valley of each fender which will have LED penny lights. I only have a few odds and ends to finish before i'm ready to paint the trailer.

Where did you hear that from, I havent heard anything about that proposed law. Most homemade trailers you see on the road are POS so i can see why they would want to get rid of them. What they should do is require that a trailer gets certified so you can register it.

a buddy told me his mechanic (annual safeties ) told him it's in the works. but it's obviously hearsay.wouldn't surprise me tho

Just saw this thread and I'm sorry I've missed it. I've enjoyed your other trailer builds and I thoroughly enjoyed reading through this one. Great job.
I thought about something similar last year when I was building my new shop to use throughout the build as well as throughout putting my yard in but never followed through because of time. There are times I wished I would have built one and I would have it now but I doubt I will ever need one again.
Keep the progress coming. I'm looking forward to the completed project.

Since i'm on holidays all week i'm able to keep moving on the trailer progress. I stripped the trailer down a got it all prepped and painted, I thought it was funny with the size difference between the hoist cylinder and the stabilizer cylinder.

The paint is just black rustoleum. Im working in my dads shop who is a cabinet maker. The moving blankets are for protecting the kitchens when he moves them to the customers house.

I have painted many frames with rustoleum. We used to use those cheap wagner vibrating spray guns, had to thin it out a lot, but they would spray a decent coat.

I stumbled across this thread a couple of days ago and finally caught up. HOLY COW!!!!! This is super slick. I love your attention to detail. My favorite part is the fenders. This is going to look as good as it works.

Trailer is now all assembled except for hydraulic lines and all the electrical. I decided to add LED flood lights to each side of the winch for night time loading. Once the trailer was outside glistening in the sunshine I stopped for a bit to admire my hard work. I would really like to get the trailer fully functioning ASAP, but I need to clean all my stuff out of my dads shop by Tuesday morning. The only issue is I have 1600 lbs of steel in the shop which is for the entire bin and part of the flatbed. So I'm going to start building the bin tomorrow to use up the steel, to get it out of the shop next i'm going to have to store the bin in my shop so I made a pair of extension forks so I can easily move the bin. The forks are made of 5"x5" 3/8" wall tube that I cut in half and welded on 2"x3/8" flat bar to hook around the back of the heel of the pallet forks, the extensions are 7 feet long and weigh 85lbs each.

Got a ton of progress on the build done today. first thing was to cut up the 140 feet of 3"x4.1 lbft channel into all the cross members for the flatbed and the entire frame of the bin. I decided to go get all my hydraulic lines made up today and I picked up 10 gal of hydraulic oil. I routed all the hydraulic lines and got the lines hooked up and filled up the reservoir. The Honda started up on the second pull after sitting for a few years. Now the trailer is functioning under its own power and I had 0 leaks The rear stabilizer can lift all tires 6" off the ground but the shackles like to flip over so its best not to lift the tires very much. The main hoist cylinder is a bit on the slow side but it is a big cylinder running off of a 3GPM pump its cycle time is 93 seconds (all the way up to down)

Got a bunch of work done on the bin today. As mentioned in earlier posts the bin is 5' wide, 10' long and 30" deep. The bin uses all 11 gauge hot rolled for the floor and sides. This is going to be the last progress post until next weekend, since I have a side job to do the rest of the long weekend. Hoping to do all the electrical next weekend.

Thanks. The amount of height the trailer raises to, I would hope, prevent anything from sticking when you're trying to dump.

Quick question, what do you plan to haul in the trailer? I need to build a new box for my dump truck ('82 GMC 3500 2-3yd box) and I plan on hauling quite a bit of crushed concrete (2"-3" and 21aa) and topsoil. What would you use for for the decking and sides?

All I will haul is mulch, soil, sand, and gravel. Its all ways a challenge on lighter duty trucks and trailer for balancing strength vs weight. I find that a 1/8" floor is usually pretty good choice for dent resistance with 16" O/C cross members but only weighs 5 lbs per SQFT. On a low wear and tear dump box that's small 14 gauge is fine for the sides with proper reinforcements. But if its more severe use or larger bed I would go 1/8".
