Roll on bedliner on wood

After removing the rear seats in my Ford Bronco, I want to create a flat surface. I’m thinking a piece of quality plywood like birch rather than regular sheathing.

I’d plan to paint it with roll on bed liner, but I’m wondering how that would hold up on the plywood since, unlike a metal truck bed, the plywood can more easily deform from the impact of a sharp object being loaded.

Any thoughts?

I used Rust-Oleum roll on on the bottom of the plywood base I used for my truck bed camper.

Soaked in, took forever to dry and ended up basically like In painted it with oil based paint. A second coat might have resulted in some buildup, but I was using up a can to get rid of it. Not sure if spend the money over paint, YMMV.

It did hold up fine to being in the truck for 2 years non-stop

I'd polyurethane or epoxy it first (not UV stable). Then coat it.

I've done a number of bumpers in the roll-on bed liners, many of them fade in UV and look like ****. Make sure you get something that's UV stable. I ended up using the liner then painting over it with quality automotive paint (with a brush). Looks great, but this is on steel.

I put some on a cargo box I built to go in the back of an Explorer. I top coated it with black paint to seal it. It gives off a strong smell if You don't top coat it

Wow! I didn’t even think of the lingering odor thing. You guys saved me from that! Back to the drawing board.
