I just finished this up.
My dad bought this roll top desk some 40 years ago............it was old then.
It has been out in the garden center ever since..
Time had taken it's toll as well as a couple of floods and a tornado
It had finally fallen apart and had to be fixed or burned.
It literally could not be moved without completely falling apart.
I took sections home to my shop and either fixed or replaced what needed attention.
I also added a band of white oak around the lower side of the cabinets to cover the degrading veneer.
After repairing the runners, a good coat of paste wax will smooth out the drawers.
Cleaning up the old wood.
I did have to darken the strip on the bottom after this pic
Back to the nursery for reassembly
Of course as soon as I started working with the top it had major issues.
Had to disassemble it and remove the tambour door.
Did have to reglue a few pieces but fortunately the canvas was still in good shape.
finally put it all back together.
Definitely not a museum piece but it should now serve faithfully for many more years
Thanks for looking..............
