My metal shop building has two roll up over head steel doors. I would like to add electric door openers to them. Is the Liftmaster 3950 pretty much the only brand / model to consider in the under $500 a door range? The doors are not heavy and fully spring loaded so easy to open by hand.

If I go this route, what is the best option to secure the doors when the shop is locked? There is no need for remote control, actuation from inside the shop only.

I use a couple of pad locks to secure the inside slide bolts on my roll-up doors, simple but effective. There is only so much that can be done to keep thieves out, they could always chop a hole through a wall to gain entry. I have an exterior door alarm and interior motion detectors.

I don't know if Liftmaster is the only brand that works, but I've been happy with my Liftmaster for the past 8 years.

not wanting to start a new thread but this is the same opener im considering for my two 12'Hx10'W doors. Wondering if i can use the existing sprocket on the doors since they are dead shaft spring loaded type ,but the tooth count appears to be higher on my doors than the sprockets included in the 3950 kit. That should make it easier for the openers but take longer to open/close. The chain seems to be the same size so that should be good to go.

any input on these openers?

My liftmaster has an automatic deadbolt on the roll up door.

I have a similar situation with my garage. Has anyone used a LM8500 on a dead-shaft roll-up door? The 8500 is both cheaper and more feature-packed than the 3950. Any input would be great.

So I've finally gotten around to installing an opener on my roll-up door. The door (Janus 2500) has a sprocket for #41 chain. The opener (Liftmaster 3950) has a sprocket for #48 chain. Does anyone know if I can just run a #41 chain on this or if I have to fab a new sprocket for the opener? Any input is appreciated.
