Florida has strict building codes, the HVHZ (high velocity hurricae zone) rating is required for windows and doors, including garage OH doors, if you live anywhere near the coast.
I just had installed two high-lift Clopay insulated, reinforced, OH garage doors. They have Liftmaster side-mount lifts on them they operate directly on the rod the lift springs mount-over, above the top of the OH door. They are faaast and quiet. They also have wired into the system, a solenoid on each side that sends a solid bolt into an opening in the track, to lock-down the garage door so it cannot be jimmied. And since the lift mechanism is mounted to the side, burglars cannot pry-open the top of the OH door center section to reach-in and 'fish' for the emergency release rope, to open the garage, as has been mentioned on here, for how crooks are forcing center-lift garage doors.
Between the insulation and the door skin inside and out, there is good climate control. You cannot stand next to this door, and feel the radiant heat pouring into the garage, like you could on a single-thickness uninsulated door skin, in the summer, with a southern exposure.
The Liftmaster system comes with a remote light for each OH door, a vehicle remote operator, and outside access numerical pad. I couldn't be more-pleased with the complete system.
I used the extra height of the door tracks to give me better access to a garage loft I had built into the rear half of the garage. I also made storage in the small space remaining above the OH door track, by putting a cleat onto each side wall, above the track, and running 2 x 4's to the middle between the garage doors, where they are supported by a connection to the ceiling joists. I placed a piece of 1/2" 4' x8' plywood on-top of the 2 x 4's, on each side, and I use it for bulky but light storage, such-as Christmas decorations, and unused storage tubs nesting one-inside the other. I also have space at the open side of the 'wedge-shaped' storage for longer boards, pvc, conduit or whatever.
This shot shows the Liftmaster mounted to the left side of the OH door. It also shows the 'wedge-shaped' storage area above the OH door, and the high-lift OH door tracks. The horizontal OH door tracks are just below the vertical height of the side wall eaves.
