Hi, I have my new building in place and all is good except the roll up garage doors are not my favorite. Anyone have any ideas on how to install inside garage door locks? The doors came with exterior locks. Thanks,

Bob

I've got three rollups in my shop. Each has two slide locks at the bottom.
Not a big problem, I can kick them open and closed with my foot.

When I go out of town, each has a hole that I slip a padlock thru.
May not be a lot of help though. Grinders, saws and wrenches are within reach of the doors!

for locks, I went to Lowes and bought three, 6 packs of Masterlocks. Looked at the key code on the back of each package so they are all keyed the same. Threw away all my mutt padlocks.
A few for the doors, on for the shed, each trailer. Nice to have them all with ONE key! Should have done that decades ago.

i welded a small pipe to bottom lip of door, got a small piece of angle iron on bottom of rail
then i use a old hook anchor bolt that slide through the pie and catches the hole in the angle iron. the angle iron is just scrap metal i had laying around. like the guy ( up there said) kick it with my feet

mine has a sort of dead bolt at the bottom. I'll try and find a pic

^^^THIS. When I bought the roll up door for my shop, this was an option available from the manufacturer. The sliding bolts go into slots in the tracks and have a provision for a padlock if you want to use one. The external locks are another option, usually used on commercial storage buildings or other applications where you can only open the door from the outside.

I had a roll-up door installed. It replaced the almost 40 year old 4 panel door. I do not have a lock on this door. I do have monitored alarm and video surveillance. On the rare occasion that someone forgets to take the alarm off and opens a door on the shop, I get a police visit in just a few minutes.
My video surveillance recorded the next door neighbour's house being broken in to. The pictures of the B&E artists was very clear and was used to get a confession. The van was stopped about 10 blocks away and easily identified by the video captured licence plate number.
I used to park my 1953 R120 International Harvester pickup in the carport. The access was off the lane, at the back. The window lock was damaged when the thieves gained entry. One of the dumb-asses left is cell phone in the truck and it had slid in-between the back and seat cushion. In a few seconds my son determined the owner of the phone and called his home. The phone belonged to one of the neighbour teen boys. The kid's father made his son pay for damages and apologise. I never locked the IHC pick-up after this event. Parts are increasingly difficult to find and I needed to reduce the possibility of more damage.
Sadly, booby trapping is a criminal offence in Canada. I have a more than a few good ideas that I can not use.
This is the only vehicle theft damage I have had in 40 years at the back of the property. . I have had 3 attempts on the garage and no entry gained.
