Roller blade wheels on stuff

The plastic wheels on my creeper were getting worn down to where the bottom of creeper was dragging on stuff that it should have cleared. So I thought, I bet roller blade wheels will wear better and probably roll nicer. Can't say much about wear yet, but they do roll better. In fact, maybe too well. Changed the timing chain on my son's truck in the driveway. The driveway has a very slight incline. But the creeper rolls easily enough that if left on its own it'll roll right out in the street. The old wheels never did that. It also makes it harder to gronk on stuff since there is zero resistance from them. I wish I could have them roll easily when I want to roll and have them stop when I want them to. At one point I was halfway down the driveway trying to get stopped after giving myself a little shove to get out from under the truck.

I just installed rollerblade wheels on my Steelcase Gesture chair. So far I'm liking it too! My wheels got brakes on them that work pretty well. I got them off Amazon.

I didn't replace the whole caster frame, just the wheels themselves. I'm not sure how I would operate caster brakes on a creeper. Maybe something that goes down through the stem and contacts the wheel? Great, another project!

Rollerblade wheels have different hardness for different skating styles. Depending on which ones you get, concrete can eat them up pretty quickly.

I don't see you moving really fast on a creeper, so it probably won't matter. If you do notice you're chewing them up quickly, then you can look for a harder compound next time.

I ended up with two sets of wheels depending on if I was at the rink or running around the streets.

My suitcase came from the factory with rollerblade wheels. Rolls easy, doesn't mar floors, quiet.

I put softer roller blade wheels on an old tub type washer when one of the four original broke. Hard plastic didn't make the difference.

It rolled easy empty and full of water just sat tight where it was.
I found one roller blade in the trash on my travels. The wheels were free.

Overhead rollers on a barn-style sliding door made by a local artist. I think those are actually roller skate wheels, but same idea.

Lower guides use two more.

Hmm.. thinking... they used to make off-pavement roller blades with 6" (or larger) wheels. Those would be handy for casters that need to roll over rough stuff. Big wheel, little bump.

Just took a look around the interweb. Looks like 200mm--~4 inch--is the largest. Still pretty useful.

Seems like that would limit you to rolling straight in and out. Maybe ok for a pipe inspection but I've never done that under a car
