I got an older Homak roller cabinet the other day off CL, missing keys and 1 set of slides. My question: is there any way to drill the lock to make it usable to open and close, with say a screwdriver? It is a tubular lock. I only use the locks if moving the cabinet, to keep the drawers from sliding out. Homak wants $35 for keys plus shipping. Locksmith says about the same thing, and I really don't need keys. Any ghetto way of doing this?

I don't know if they'll fit but I've replaced locks on numerous CM and a Husky with the 2 or 3 pack locks sold at Sears. all keyed alike and if I were to guess the packs were 12 bucks or so. try it out.

:+1: on ^^ this; but to answer the question, you can jam a screwdriver into the key slot and twist, and the innards will disintegrate. Once cleared you should be able to do what you asked, but it won't necessarily stay locked, so I would not rely on it.

i agree with them guys, but the lock itself is usually held in with just a clip or nut on the backside, stick a mirror in the open top drawers to see how its held in, if the end of the shaft is square...a 12 point socket will turn it to latch the drawers....
