Roller cover question - wolverine

I found a local sherwin willliams that carries the wooster mohair blend roller cover made for epoxy, urethanes, etc. They only carry the 1/4" nap, while the instructions from wolverine suggest 3/8" to 1/2". What does the nap size affect for rolling out the floor?

Their mohair's are good, but be sure to monitor it carefully, as the pot life decreases the curing epoxy can tear out fibers. Wooster also has "EpoxyGlide" covers, also good.

1/4 nap is good for the LiquaTile and Bondtite, 3/16 for EnduraShield.

Even though they claim to be shed free, take a piece of duct tape and pat down the roller before use to lift off any loose fibers.

We use Sherwin Williams Contractor Series-Soft Woven. Be sure to get the white ones. They come in 1/4", 3/8", 1/2". Not all stores carry all sizes but they can get them for you.

For cut in work cheap chip brushes will do for the epoxy, for the polyurethane EnduraShield I like those no name black foam brushes on the wooden sticks.

If you can't find the exact nap size, shorter will be better than longer. But you don't want to buy anything that is not shed free.

Roller brush lint and shed fibers are difficult to deal with. First they're difficult to see, both when applying the coatings and even when done. Actually they're easy to see when done, the floor has a whole bunch of small pointy spots. What's difficult to see is that the pointy spots are cause by shed fibers, but when you get down real close you'll see them embedded in the finish. Then you need to sand down the clear coat, at least, and ideally apply a fresh coat of clear. Best to avoid the extra work and expense by using a high quality lint and shed free roller to start with.

The nap size will typically determine at what mil thickness the epoxy is applied at. It does also depend on that particluar product as well, but the longer the nap the thicker the coating would be applied.
