It activates with roller clutch instead of pawls, almost zero backlash.

Hello,
I work for Omega Technologies. Yes, the through hole is used in aerospace applications for inserting a hex key through the wrench. However, we do offer a standard wrench that has the conventional square drive with no through hole.

The square drive has the standard ball type socket retainer. Part numbers are RR1L (long handle) RR1S (short handle).

I've included pics of the flip side.

Thank you for adding information here.

How large is the through-hole?

Bump.

So nobody has one of these yet? I'd really like to know how you change directions - if there is a lever I cannot see in the photo or if you have to remove something and flip it over. I also cannot find the ratchet without the through-hole that OmegaTechnologies1 mentioned.

That model does not change directions, others models you remove the spindle and insert from the other side and these models have dual heads one for tighten, one for loosen http://omegatec.com/double-ended-roller-ratchets.aspx

There is another similar thread on this topic.

McMaster sells them. Omega apparently makes them and has a number of web sites - apexbits.com, omegatec.com and I believe mrotools.com.

Hopefully the GJ member from Omega will come back and answer a few questions, maybe even make GJ members a good deal. :D

Hi Guys,
If you have any questions about our Roller Ratchets or anything else we sell please PM me, I'll assist you as best I can. Our websites are the ones mentioned above, plus for customers in Europe: eumro.co.uk. I'll work on getting GJ memebers a discount.

Thanks for the information. I bumped it up to the engineering guys. It may be something we would be interested in manufacturing.

Our traditional market has always been aerospace/aviation, however the websites have brought us alot of interest from people working in automotive and other industries and this kind of insight is very helpful. Thanks again!

BTW... To answer some questions I've been PM'd

QUESTION: Do you sell replacement spindles?
Yes, we do sell replacement spindles for the Roller Ratchet:
http://omegatec.com/rrqc-dr1-4-roller-ratchet-spindle.aspx

QUESTION: Are any of the Roller Ratchet reversible?
1. YES. all RR40-SERIES Roller Ratchets are reversible. Ive explained below how to change them:
Holding the Roller Ratchet in hand with the thumb pressing firmly on the back of the spindle, rotate the spindle with fingers of the other hand gently pulling. Thus removing the spindle, it then can be replaced with a variety of other spindles or simply be made to function in the opposite direction by turning the handle over and replacing the spindle.
To replace the spindle, holding the Roller Ratchet in hand, firmly press the spindle into the bearing or clutch. Once the o-ring meets the bearing begin rotating the spindle until it “clicks” into place. Firm pressure is required.

QUESTION: Do you make roller ratchets that work with 1/4" insert bits?
YES. Part # is RR40S-BH. This model will be up on the website by the end of the week.

QUESTION: Do any Roller Ratchets come without through-holes?
YES. We do have Roller Ratchets without through-holes, RR1S (Short Handle) RR1L (Long Handle) Price:$55.50 Both will be available on the website by week's end.

QUESTION: Ever thought of making the dual-end roller ratchet with 1/4" square drive (for sockets) on one end and 1/4" insert bit on the other end?
WE CAN. We can Mix and Match spindles (bit/socket for example). I have included a link to a pdf of our print catalog pages that show common combinations with part numbers. http://omegatec.com/RR-cat-pages.pdf
