Starting to plan for renovation of my garage and am looking into the future... I'd like to have a planer and mitre saw, and possible a jointer. I was thinking a 13" planer and 8" jointer (Cutech, specifically). I see a lot of people making rolling stands for these tools, which is ideal for my limited space. However, I'm questioning the stability of these stands- Do they roll while pushing stock (i.e. the jointer)? Do they tip? Anyone try these roll-away stands and go back to bench mounting (and why)?

Thanks!

I have mobile stands under just about all my woodworking machines. The planer (Dewalt 735) and miter saw are rock solid. As is the table saw. The joiner may 'rock' a bit (if I only lock 2 of the 4 casters), but it's nothing dangerous.

If you fabricate your own bases, look for casters that lock not only the wheel, but the swivel.

Pics if you're interested.
