Greetings!!

I am a entertainment electrician in the great city of Chicago with some touring. My CLC tool bag is starting to give up the ghost (lasted for 8 years). I am looking for a hard case with wheels. So far I have narrowed it down to two.

Pelican 1510- Everyone seems to have them. The only downside is by the time you set it up with the organizers it comes out to be almost 300 dollars. The tools would end up in pouches or rolls so it would be a change from my current tool bag where everything has its place and easy access by just opening the lid.

Chicago Case Company Slimline case.- (There also appears to be a rebadged craftsman version). This is nice as it has the tool pallets so when you open the case everything is laid out and ready to go. The other part of the case is cut to fit foam so that would work great for my fluke, laser disto, and a pouch for specialty tools not used often.

Currently I am using a 19" Chicago Case Company case that I scored off of craigslist for 50 bucks. It does the job but it is big. I have it weighing in at 47lbs with most of the bottom foam part unused. It also seems just a bit big to haul around. Has an electrician I haul more tools than most of the other techs out there such as video and audio guys.

Thanks!

Tony

I would disagree with you about Chicago being great in general but if you're looking for tools it's pretty good, otherwise it's the next Detroit. I've got a CH Ellis and a Chicago Case, neither are rolling version but are both good cases. I'd keep an eye on craig's list, there was a Craftsman rolling case listed for a while and I see lots of rolling cases come up (I'd get one myself if the price is right and it's close). Otherwise prepare to drop some dough, I don't think you could go wrong with either CH Ellis, Chicago Case or Pelican. You might have a look at a few local stores (I think Fry's carry's them depending on where you're located) and see what deals they have.

I used to travel about 20 years ago. I bought a two-wheeler at a specialty luggage store, then a Zero Haliburton aluminum case for tools. It was bullet proof because it went through checked baggage.

Now days they make 'em with wheels.
