Millermav, taking off the base is the only way to go if you ask me. I think the only time I would leave it is if it were a floor stand type. I used a piece of 1/2"x6" flat bar as a backer under the base, there is no wiggle at all. I've been slacking off, working on the table actually, and haven't ordered the other three drawers that fit in underneath in the stand. Storage for bits, chip brush, cutting oil, blocks, spacers and all the other stuff for the press is nice to have so close and handy.
