Rolls-Royce Tool Check Token

I've recently bought this nice artefact on FleaBay for 99p. I've no idea of its age so it could relate to car production in Derby or later aero engine production. I have seen others being offered for sale in slightly varying styles, but all are brass.

By a happy coincidence, 43 was my late parents house number and 17 is my current house number.

These tags generally predate 'clocking in' ...each worker had to hang his tag on a board for a timekeeper to check by 5 minutes past starting time ,and take his tag down no later than 5 minutes after quitting time................workers on piece work rates also had a lapel badge with the same number ..............often the employee gates were closed at one minute past ,an employee arriving later would have his name taken by the gatekeeper and pay docked .

That's not what this type of token were used for. Workers were issued with more than one of the tokens all with the same number on them. When tools were borrowed from the company tool store, one of the tokens was left in its place. In that way, who had each tool was known and its return could be assured.
