Rollup door latch question

My new outbuilding is still under construction. It has two 9x8 roll-up doors (DBCI 650s) into the workshop area. The installed doors use a basic slide latch that is only accessible/lockable from outside. While this will work fine for one of the doors (that area will be used for storage). The other roll-up door will open into the metalworking area of my shop. I would like to be able to open that roll-up door from inside (or inside AND outside if possible). Has anyone ever seen a latch for a roll-up door that was open-able from inside instead of or in addition to outside? My google and Amazon searches just keep finding the same latch that I have or latches for segmented garage doors.

I put a 6x7 roll up door on my wifes potting shed and removed the slide latch from the outside and mounted it on the inside so it wouldn't interfere with the weatherstrip. Of course, I had to drill new holes as it had to fit in the groove which is the opposite of the outside,so I filled those with small carriage bolts. But it can only be opened from the inside which is okay with her as there is a man door a few feet away.SDC10476.JPGSDC10475.JPG

Yeah, I was wondering if that were possible. Good to know it will work. The man door is on the opposite side of the shop. 90% of the time I will enter through the man door and open the shop roll door from the inside. Just would be nice to be able to open it from the outside as well.

How does that even work? Does it get rolled up into the door?
My rollups have a stop bar at the top a few inches down on the rail/guide. The bottom step plate catches on the stop to keep the door from opening too far and unwinding itself.

OP, I have a Janus 1000 series ( cheapest ) on my shed thats probably equivalent to your 650.

Mine has a slide latches on the inside at the bottom step plate. It can be ordered to have the latch on the outside as well.
I would contact the manufacturer to see what they offer.

Well, it does work well and rolls right up with the door. I did have to cut six inches off the bottom of the door to give clearance at the top for the rolled up door on the barn style roof. So then I had to make the latch hole in the track a little larger to catch the latch.

Keep in mind that steel can both be cut and welded.

Under the right conditions it can take on Plastic Properties. Heat and a hammer can be your friend.

I checked and DBCI doesn't offer anything like what I am looking for. I can find the Janus bottom rail latches and am considering those. I also have found the B&D deluxe at a US seller. But have not found the install guide to confirm size and function. It looks like that lock requires slide bars to be installed similar to a T handle lock for a segmented garage door. That would require a lot of modification on my cheap roll door.
I may be overthinking this. 58Yoeman's idea may be the best. The shop rollup will probably only ever be opened from inside. For the storage rollup I will probably just put an exterior lock on for now and see how it gets used.
I am really surprised that nobody US offers something like this. I can find options in AU and UK but I am not gonna pay shipping+tariffs on a $30 item. Been there done that had to pay Tariffs on the T shirt too 😁

The B&D door comes with the holes pre cut to suit the lock , 1 rectangular hole and (2) round holes each side for screws to hold the lock
the locking bars are fastened to the lock and supported at the side of the door for single, the doubles has supports between the lock and end of the door

I can get pictures later if you want

@goldtang A picture or two would be helpful. Also some outside dimensions of the lock assembly. I need to determine if it will fit in the recess of the door. This is what it would have to fit in to roll up correctly.

What I did on our garage that has the roll up doors on the arm that slides into the track I drilled a hole in it on the inside so I could slip a pad lock through it basically acting as a lock so no one can open it from the outside.
