Rollup doors

Good Morning. First post on a great forum.
I am building my shop/garage (pole barn) and am ready to buy the doors. I can't find anything locally that is reasonably priced. I found rollupdoorsdirect.com and was wondering if anyone has had dealings with them good or bad. Even with shipping they are half the price of anything I can find on the local market.
Thanks

I have one of their doors that I bought on craigslist from a guy who never put it up. It looks good to me. The instructions are nice and also downloadable from the website. Shipping would be costly, but, I had trouble finding one to buy. The garage builders did not want to sell just a door.

Thanks
Did you install it yourself? I am out in the sticks and doing all the work myself. Put in overhead doors before but no rollups.

It is not installed yet, I have to get some metal tubing to frame the opening. It looks really easy to install. There are youtube videos.

Rollup, and yes I am out in the sticks. A sectional door would have to be customized and way too expensive. The photo shows what I am doing. The two doors will be in the first 2 bays on the right side. ( the container is gone).
This pic was taken back in April. The framing and siding are done. Framed in the headers last weekend. Now ready for the doors.

Was that a mobile home snow roof?

I was going to go with them as they do seem to have a pretty good deal. But I kind of fell in lust with the rolling steel doors we have at work. They are about 2 times the price but about 5 times the steel and the insulation is contained inside the slats. My 10 x 8 ft doors were $4400 for two un installed. Installation was about $1000 extra.

I have installed 2 roll up doors with no problems. Not familiar with the rollupdoors direct people, the first door was made by Asta Door and the second was a Craigslist find with no name or paperwork.

As long as you have the basic hand tools (level, drill, ratchets / sockets, etc) they go up pretty easy. Just get everything plumb and you will be good to go. It also helps if you have a tractor with forks to lift the roll up door in place after the frame is put up.

I don't know if you have Menards stores in your area but they sell Ideal brand roll up doors. You can custom order your size and they ship it to the store for free.

I installed a Janus door on my shop two weeks ago. Shipping is high but I lucked out, a buddy who owns a storage unit business was putting up a new building and ordered a whole truckload of doors and they threw mine on the load. So far I'm very happy with the door, it was easy to install and it works great.

From what I could tell from their website Janus uses the foil-backed bubble wrap for insulation. I got them to price my door with insulation and without and their R3 insulation nearly doubled the cost of the door. Instead I picked up a $40 dollar roll of bubble wrap and some 3M trim tape and I'm planning to insulate the door myself when I have a free afternoon.

Most big box stores (Lowes, Menards, Home Depot) sell the bubble insulation and Amazon has the 3M adhesive cheap.

Digging this one back up.......

How are your roll up doors with wind?

I have been looking at the same doors from rollupdoorsdirect. Do they rattle like the hinged rollup style doors?

I've installed two Janus doors. One 16ft the other 14ft wide. I think they make hurricane rated doors but that is not what I purchased.

Mine make almost no noise and are almost completely silent when going up and down via the electric operator.

Be aware that the roll up doors leave a gap at the header when they are in the down position. When the door rolls up, the roll gets larger diameter, this determines how close to the header you can set it on the brackets. Then when you roll it down, you get anywhere from a 1 to 3 inch gap which lets air, birds, etc in. The only solutions are if the roll is contained in a box that is sealed to the wall, some manufacturers do this, or to use some sort of brush or rubber seal to close the gap.

Brush sits there and drags on the door, and in time, wears the paint, and doesn't seal that good. Rubber seals do the same. I discussed this in MY THREAD on this problem, and some of the fixes, plus what I did to resolve it. I had issues with birds flying up thru the gap and getting trapped in the building. I haven't had a single bird since I installed my gap closer door, and it keeps out the cold north wind also.

Janus door problems. First off I ordered three doors 10x10 insulated, arrived in one container. Opened the container and immediately realized there was no packing material protecting the doors from the crate, yes the doors were damaged. The rails were not protected, yes they were damaged. Decided I could live with the damage negotiated a discount. I have installed two doors. The third door had damaged side rails I have been waiting ten days and they still have not shipped the replacement parts.

May be isolated incident, I should have ordered the doors a month earlier than I needed them but really this is not small company, very disappointing. I like the doors, I do not like the customer service.
