romex to surface mount box

Rather than messing up my walls I plan to do the following when running the circuit for my heater.

Come out of sub panel with 10/2 romex. Go thru hole in wall to surface mounted box. Thermostat will be mounted here (line voltage tstat).

Run emt from this box up to ceiling area where heater will be mounted and place outlet here in surface mount box.


Is it legal just to drill a hole thru the osb and pop the romex into the first box?

Is the romex exposed anywhere?

Does it go from the panel thru the wall directly in to the surface mounted box on the other side of the wall?

You're fine, it's done all the time. Why are you installing a recep for your heater instead of hard wiring it?

Comes with a plug on the end of it. The romex will go thru wall into the back of the box. From their emt will be surface mounted to the heater location and the jbox with outlet will be installed.

I don't know if its required by code or not, but you should push a bushing at the hole in the box, and the OSB hole. You can get those yellow 1" bushings cheap, and they come in handy.
