You can add full length 2x12 without cutting the ceiling if you use hangers. You will only need it on 1 side as you slip it over the wall on 1 side. Or there might be enough room to fit it between the 4' span you have.
I see what looks like short joists on the end wall. Is that just for storage? You would have to remove them if you go with 20' pieces.
At 20' the floor will be very bouncy up there. I'd do a lot of blocking. Even better if you could put a LVL from front to back to sort of cut the span in half, sort of. Has to go below or above. Do not cut the existing collar ties.
