Searched the site and am more confused then ever! Reworking a 30x 24 pole barn that has no eves. How can you insulate the roof with out condensation problems? It has a metal roof. Can you install insulation over the perlins and screw your metal through it, some sort of Fiberglass bat or spray foam? Can I do a ceiling and insulate that?? Travis

This is my second post in a week that has gotten zero responses. Am I doing something wrong? Not being clear in my posts?? Thanks, Travis

My metal building had no ridge or soffet vents. I decided to spray foam the entire thing. I left my trusses exposed. I painted the trusses white and plan to install white steel to the underside of the roof and walls to cover the foam, eventually. Haven't been through a heating season yet, but the building sure cools down quickly with just a window AC unit. I'm expecting similar results with heat this winter. The foam really tightens up the building. It wasn't cheap, but I'm glad I invested in it.

If you do a flat ceiling and insulate above the ceiling, I'm pretty sure you'll have condesation problems in the "attic" if you don't have proper venting.

We are building our metal building right now and have purchased the insulation package. Basically 6'x100' rolls of insulation which will go over the purlins and then the sheet metal will be on top of that. Pretty much standard insulation practice in all the big metal buildings around here including some large hangars which are heated which I have worked in. Never seem to have notice a condensation issue..

I will post some pics of the insulation on my build thread of the insulation install next week.

(My Texas Dream Garage) thread...

One section of my pole building has a plywood ceiling with blown/fiberglass insulation... no moisture problems ever in 15 years.... but the attic certainly isn't anywhere near airtight.

The area where my lift is has an uninsulated ceiling with R-19 walls. I've delayed insulating the ceiling just because I don't heat that section of my shop. But I may this year.

I may use spray foam OR use bagged fiberglass (R-19) then covered with blueboard then plywood...

I'm having my pole barn built right now (just broke ground this morning) and opted for a metal roof. My builder spec'd some fanfold 'insulation' for under the roof panels to avoid moisture problems when heating. I'll check to see if there's any labelling on the bundles when I get home this evening.
