I have a 30 x 40 foot pole barn that is un insulated in ne ohio except for the garage doors. I am trying to heat the garage to a manageable level in the winter time. I would like to put fiberglass batts on the roof trusses to keep my heat in. I will be using 2 kero heaters to provide the heat in there.

Do I need to worry about moisture above the insulation? The roof is asphalt shinlgles and sheating is just plywood...I can do the whole roof for about 500 in fiberglass r13 batts...I think it will help quite a bit having this insulation up there.

Any suggestions or concerns I should be worried about?

Thanks for all help,

Grub

I think there is supposed to be a gap in there for ventelation, but I'm not sure. I'm interested to know more about this issue too.

are there any vents in your roof? thats really the only reason you leave any air pocket. if you do the paper backed stuff, and don't have any roof vents, go for it.

You're going to have a lot of problems with moisture, ice, and mold if you insulate just that way . . .

The R-13 batts in my small pole barn (24x26) are just stapled to the trusses. One of these days I'll get them covered with something. I'm near Akron and the insulation helps a lot.
