Was watching TV last night and a commercial for this company came on. Did some quick googling to see about it. Apparently they spray some soy based oil on your existing shingles to rejuvenate them and get extra life out of them. Never heard of this before. Looks like someone local bought a franchise. Anybody seen this before? A different variation of "snake oil"?

I have run across some clear acrylic coatings designed to be spayed on shingles to extend there life and actually have thought about trying it out. I think it would be similar to the coatings they spray on concrete pavers. I have seen several driveways coated with a water based paver sealer that has held up very well.

in my opinion i would rather replace the shingle roof or add a metal roof to it then doing this every 5 years

I'm just throwing it out there. Nothing I would pay to have done. I am guessing it just darkens them up and makes them look better for a short period of time. Searching soy based sealers, there are a bunch of variations for different applications. Looks to be a different take on acrylic sealers I have seen before.

Are you talking about wood shingles? If so I would not do that, we had a bunch of these scammers in CA before wood roofs were practically outlawed. Never helped but did make the roof look newer for a year or two. Part of the wood roofs ability to seal is being able to swell when rain/water hits it any type on sealant makes it loose that ability.

I'm not planning on doing this or having this done. I just thought it was interesting. Its for asphalt shingles. More of a protectant to extend the life of the shingles. I think they said the optimum age was like 5-7 years old and not to bother if they are 15 or older.
