Hi All
I've learned SO much here and this is my FAVORITE forum!
I need some advice... My wife wants to replace the 3 'Rusty Barn Stars' in the pic with Gable Pediments. Those stars were removed when my kids were home for TG. While up there I asked them to measure the angle of the Gable's peak with a folding style Angle Gauge. It was 106*. Is there a way to determine roof pitch from JUST that number? My Ladder climbing days are LONG over and I don't want to get back up there to figure out Rise over Run. Surely there is a way to calulate the pitch so I can order these things and prep them for installation. I'll get the ladder out again if I need more info. I don't math but some of you all do. I need math!
Thanks for any help - LOVE THIS PLACE!!

If by 106 degrees you mean the angle of the vee above the stars, then your roof pitch is 9:12.

Math: The interior angles in a triangle sum to 180 degrees, so the angle at the base of the roof is 37 degrees ( 180-106, divided by two) .

The unit rise per unit run of that angle is given by the tangent of 37 degrees, which is .7536. Multiply by 12 (to get the normal units for roof pitch) and you get 9.043, so most likely the roof was designed with a 9:12 pitch.

Hope this helps!

one can also use a triangle calculator where the bottom is 12", one angle is 90 degrees, and one at 53 degrees, which is half of 106 degrees. This gives 9.043 as the rise agreeing with the post above
